2011-2012 Calvary Goals Update
The following goals were put in place for June 2011 – May 2012
Below are some highlights
� WELCOME – new people and parishioners
A Welcome Table was completed in time for the Christmas services.
Our Wardens and Rector completed calls to all parishioners to just say
hello and touch base with each household.
� ACT - on God’s vision for Calvary’s growth and future
The Planning Process team continues to grow and will be discussed in greater detail
at the January meeting.
� MATCH - Parishioner time and talent with ministry team needs
and opportunities
The Vestry and Clergy continue to work in the Ministry-Focused-Church format.
Emphasis at Calvary continues to be Team Ministry, with established teams and
team leaders working together on the various ministries. Each Vestry Member is
assigned an area of ministry, but is backed up by the hard-working teams.

1. Opening Prayer, Hymn
The meeting began at 10:09 a.m. with opening prayers and Hymn 602, v.1-3.
2. Mission Statement, Goals
Calvary’s Mission Statement and Parish-wide goals were read aloud.
3. Appointment of Tellers
Tellers to conduct and count the ballots for Warden, Vestry, and Convention/Convocation
delegates and alternates were appointed. Mike Aron and Adrienne Hahn were named tellers.
4. Voting Process
The process of the Election of Church Officers (Canon 49) was explained briefly and copies of
Canon 49 were made available.
Calvary’s Voter Qualifications include:
General
• Baptized, at least age 16, of good moral character
• Member of the Episcopal Church and no other religious body
• Enrolled as a member of Calvary Church.
For the last six months
• Present for worship at least 50% of time
• Regular contributor to current expenses of the Parish.
5. Nominations
The nomination for Anita Muñoz for Junior Warden was moved by Glynn Gillette, seconded
by Jim Hutzelmann, and carried unanimously.
The nominations of Fred Galano (3-yr.), Doug Reagan (3-yr.), Scott Twaddell (3-yr.), and
Karen DeFrancesco (2-yr.) for Vestry were moved by Rae Aron, seconded by Lynn Cote, and
carried unanimously.
There were no nominations for the 1-yr. term open on the Vestry.
The nominations for Convention/Convocation were as follows:

6. Voting Polls
The Polls were declared open at 10:15 A.M. and were closed at 10:45 A.M.
7. 2010 Minutes
The 2010 Annual Meeting Minutes were moved to be approved by Todd Green, seconded by
Bob Griswold, and carried unanimously
8. Messages from Clergy & Wardens
Fr. Harry Mazujian, Rector; Mother Ann Holt, Associate Priest; Deacon Jack, Deacon; Karen
DeFrancesco, Sr. Warden; and Mirelle White, Jr. Warden summarized their remarks and
thanks expressed in the 2010 Annual Report.
9. Ministry Area Reports
Ministry area reports were filed by title. The congregation was referred to the reports in the
2010 Annual Report for details. Discussion on the ministries took place at the “Calvary Gives
Thanks” brunch January 23 after all services.
10. 2010 Treasury Report
Referring to the Financial Report (pg. 21) in the 2010 Annual Report, Gretchen Pozarycki
pointed out that, over-all, Calvary did very well, ending up with a surplus of $1900.
11. Parish-Wide Goals 2010-2011: Next Steps
The Next Steps for the Parish goals were presented by Fr. Harry, Karen DeFrancesco (Sr.
Warden), and Mirelle White, (Jr. Warden). These steps were described as:
1. Finesse team will optimize what we have and then look to the future.
2. Training for leadership, then team leaders will move forward in encouraging
participation of the right people for the right jobs.
3. Welcome team’s goal is to encourage first-time visitors to return, follow-up with the
contact. Also, to encourage members to stay, and participate. This is all a process to be
followed/developed.
4. Increase the Parish’s visibility in the community—let people in the community know
about Calvary.
5. Lots of Fellowship participation!
12. 2011 Budget
Gretchen Pozarycki presented the 2011 Budget, highlighting the following:
• Pledging is flat at $150 K
• ShopRite cards are doing well
• Major expenses foreseen include:
o Resurfacing the parking lot
o Replace the broken window in the parish hall
o Repair the ridgeline on the church roof
o Be careful of our funds.
13. Report on Voting
The election tellers reported 66 attendees indicated on the sign-up sheets, 65 voters, and 65
ballots cast. All nominees were elected.

14. Old Business:
A. Growth Fund: 2010 Objectives as reported in the 2010 Annual Meeting Minutes (10c)
indicated that a Growth Fund was voted to seek direction assistance for our goals. That Fund
has begun.
B. Parish Ministry Areas: The 2010 Minutes mentioned (11c, 12a) a review of parish
ministry areas. Descriptions of those ministries have begun.
C. Parish Directory: The 2010 Minutes noted (12b,c) the lack of a new Parish Directory.
We are investigating ways to accomplish a new directory economically.
15. New Business:
No new business was indicated.
16. Thank You to Retiring Warden, Vestry
Hearty thanks to the following retiring Vestry persons were made:
Karen DeFrancesco (Sr. Warden), Jim Hutzelmann, Gretchen Pozarycki, George Scott, and
Carleen Tedeschi.
Closing Prayer, Hymn:
Closing prayers and verse 4 of Hymn 602 concluded the 2011 Annual Meeting. A motion to
close the meeting was made by Glynn Gillette, seconded by Lynn Cote, and carried
unanimously. The meeting ended at 10:58 A.M.

Rector’s Annual Report – January, 2012
The cover of this report shows some of the past year’s wonderful activities of parishioners of
all ages. It captures a few of the memorable moments of us as people of God, here at Calvary. I
hope you enjoy reading through the brief reports of each of our ministries, and get a sense of all
the wonderful things that go on in the name of the Lord.
This has been a transitional year in a number of ways.
• We continued our effort toward a “Ministry-Oriented” Church. The year began two
months after I returned from sabbatical. Yes, our leaders and people did a great job – “so
keep doing it” became the mantra.
• We made it all around the liturgical year as with our new sanctuary orientation, using
our beautifully reconstructed altar when Bishop Councell visited us in September.
• We gave thanks for Andrea McGahan’s music ministry with us over the years (and her
husband, Tim) as they followed a call to a parish in Pennsylvania.
In May, our Vestry reflected on Calvary’s ministry and discerned to focus on three areas for
a year beginning in June:
• WELCOME – new people and parishioners. Now that almost all people enter for
worship through the parish hall, we need to optimize the opportunity, as well as be mindful
that people visiting for the first time may enter through the double doors. We need to
develop our “beyond Sunday” warm welcome also.
• ACT - on God’s vision for Calvary’s growth and future. This is the year to decide and
act! Now is the time to put together and activate our Planning Team, engage our people to
discern God’s vision for our ministry, and then be faithful to implement it.
• MATCH - Parishioner time and talent with ministry team needs and opportunities.
This is where much work has been done behind the scenes. An important initial step was
to define and document how our ministries are run. Our vestry and team leaders worked
hard at this. This effort is at the heart of our Jan 15 th Ministry Celebration Brunch.
Thanks to all of you who have shared your particular manifestations of the Spirit, especially
through your action in our ministry areas.
A special thanks to our clergy, Mother Ann Holt and Deacon Jack Hain; our wardens,
Mirelle White and Anita Muñoz; and our Vestry; who have worked so faithfully this year.
May the Holy Spirit guide us with Christ’s mission in the Flemington area and beyond!

ASSOCIATE PRIEST’S REPORT - 2011
The Rev. Ann Holt
When people ask, “What is a Priest Associate’s job?”, my answer has been, “All the things
she loves to do.” That remains my answer for 2011 at Calvary. It is a privilege—a luxury, really—
to work in the areas of ministry I most enjoy.
In Adult Formation,.Laura Kasser, Fred Galano, and the Adult Education Committee plan
Sunday forums and other adult events, as described in the report that follows.
In June, the Tuesday at Ten study group, now 16 members strong, finally wound up a long,
leisurely look at the Old Testament women. After several unstructured meetings in the summer,
September began our new subject, Exploring the Book of Common Prayer. This has proved to be
an interesting mix of history, liturgy, and theology. During Lent, Emilie Nawrock and I led a Soup
Supper program on the Psalms, and in June, a group of us visited the Convent of St. John Baptist
in Mendham for a look into the amazing area of ecclesiastical embroidery
In Outreach, we continue ministry to the residents of the Kapp Apartments in Flemington.
Eight of us conduct monthly first Wednesday services, followed by social hours, which feature the
offerings of Roxanne Zellin and Baking with a Mission helpers. The friendship with our
congregation there means a great deal to each of us.
Parish knitters and crocheters have now given 80 beautiful Prayer Shawls to parishioners
and friends, a very special ministry. In addition, we supplemented the Seamen’s Church Institute’s
Christmas at Sea program (see the Outreach report) by providing scarves and caps for sailors on
cold seas this winter.
In Pastoral Care, I enjoy and hope to expand my visits with parishioners, a very special part
of ministry for me. In Worship, Father Harry, Deacon Jack, and I share preaching and other
liturgical duties.
And what about in Fun? Well, taking over the Confirmation Class on occasion is fun, as
well as challenging. Our confirmands ask very insightful questions. And the St. Valentine’s Tea
in February was fun, too, with music by our younger members, Valentine-making galore, and a tea
table full of delicious things to eat!
Most of all, perhaps, is the delight of ministry I’ve come to appreciate more and more in
my “later years,” watching our children grow from babies to toddlers to beyond, sharing the
deepest joys and woes of parishioners, helping roll out the always-enriching church year yet again,
working with people devoted to their roles as faithful Christians in the world-the list could go on
and on.
Starting with Harry, Jack, and Lori, thanks to the many with whom it is such a pleasure to
work. Blessing to each member of Calvary as we begin another year together.

2011 Deacon’s Annual Report – January, 2012
Deacon’s Report
As I enter my fifth year of service to Calvary Church, and my fourteenth in the Diocese of New
Jersey, I am reminded of my ordination vows to serve directly under our bishop and to serve all
people, particularly the poor, the weak, the sick, and the lonely.
A Deacon’s ministry has been described as “having one foot in the Church and the other in the
World” - bringing the Church to the world outside the Parish and the needs of those outside the
Parish back into the Church.
My ministry to the Diocese of New Jersey continues in 2012 as Chair of the Ballot Committee at
our annual Diocese Convention, this year convening its 228 th convention on Friday, March 2 and
Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ. Appointed by our bishop,
my responsibility is to insure and report to the delegates the results of the election ballots cast.
Working with ten ballot judges, we review ballots that are “rejected,” tally votes and present them
to the assembled convention.
My visible ministry in the Parish is to serve as Deacon in the liturgy, proclaiming the Good News
of the Gospels, setting the table for the Eucharistic meal and “doing the dishes” at its conclusion. I
have had the honor and the pleasure of working alongside Father Harry and Mother Ann, assisting
in parish programs and special services. I have offered my services to those facing financial stress
in these difficult economic times as well as offering family counseling when requested.
I am blessed to be able to spread the good news through preaching, something I enjoy immensely.
Preaching on a monthly basis, I am able to follow ordination vow to “spread the Good News.”
My ministry in the community continues to be my service at Hunterdon Medical Center at a
Chaplain. Typically, I conduct this ministry after Sunday services at Calvary. In 2011, I
performed hospital rounds on 42 Sundays. I also served as the “on-call” Chaplain for five weeks
in 2011. The on-call Chaplain serves as the after hours Chaplain in the event a family or patient
requests the service of Clergy. I received three after hours calls during these weeks of service.
I thoroughly enjoy being amongst you, my extended family, my dear friends and partners in
ministry. Go in Peace to Love and Serve the Lord!

The Gospel According to Your Wardens
Good News! Good News! That is what you hear from both your Sr. and Jr. Warden this year.
The building blocks that were laid by the Vestries before us, created a foundation that has soared
to great heights this year.
When someone hears the call to serve on the Church Vestry, most will say they start with great
enthusiasm. However, you find out quickly that the list of expected accomplishments is whittled
down to just a few wonderfully crafted projects. But that is ok, because you are doing the Lord’s
work in HIS time, not yours. For your Wardens, the same principal applies. We each had grand
ideas as to what we thought we SHOULD accomplish in our time on Vestry. But, we didn’t meet
our expectation, we met the Lord’s and that meant all of us accomplished more for His purpose
and through those able to praise Him!
Some things accomplished include:
• The Vestry, with the support of the Clergy, made enormous strides in continuing down the
path of a ministry-oriented church
• Each Ministry working with their individual teams (sometimes a team of 1) completed a
variety of projects in their areas
• Processes and procedures were put into place to handle the business of the church and
followed by the Vestry and teams
• Ministry procedure books were updated or developed to cover all the ministry areas
• A Personnel Team was established to handle job descriptions, reviews and new hire issues
• Welcome Bags were put together for visitors at our services
• Clergy and Wardens reached out to the Church families letting them know how important
they are to our Calvary family.
• And this is just the start….each Ministry report shows what great accomplishments we,
with God’s help and direction, were able to undertake.
We, your Wardens, want to acknowledge all the wonderful Calvary parishioners who gave, and
continue to give their time and talent to Calvary’s ministries and to each other. We want to share
our sincere thanks to all of YOU!
Though we will be leaving the Vestry, we look forward to continuing to serve our Lord and our
Calvary Church family in other areas.

MINISTRY AREA: CHRISTIAN FORMATION: CHILDREN Name: Kim Webb
Christian Formation is a life-long process in which we learn and grow in faith. Calvary offers a
comprehensive program for students of all ages.
How has the good news of Jesus Christ been proclaimed through this ministry this year?
+ The teachings of Jesus have been taught by our dedicated Sunday school teachers, who have utilized the
“All Things New” curriculum for Pre-K through Grade 6.
+ Communion instruction continues to be taught to our 2 nd grade class in addition to their regular CF studies.
The children spend the year studying this central act of worship and the spiritual life, which culminates in a
dedicated “Instructed Eucharist” ceremony in June.
+ The 7 th & 8 th grade students receive the Good News of Jesus Christ through reading weekly Bible passages
from the Old & New Testament that provide them with important preparation for their Confirmation studies.
+ The 9–12 th grade students meet every other week for Confirmation Studies & Youth Group Meetings.
Functions included in this area:
+ Children’s Church is offered for ages 3-6 at the 9 service. Children are led by an adult in a simplified
service, which has all the components of the adult service in the Church. This provides our young
parishioners with an interactive learning experience that prepares them for their own journey of worship.
+ Pre-K through 8 th grade attends weekly Christian Formation Classes.
+ 9 th – 12 th grade study/ confirmation classes, youth group participation
+ Easter Basket Outreach- all children are asked to donate candy for baskets delivered to the Flemington
Food Pantry.
+ Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and walk to Flemington Food Pantry in which all classes are asked to
donate specific food items to help those less fortunate in our community have a Happy Thanksgiving.
+ Annual Christmas Epiphany Pageant- Chairperson - Andrea Lynott.
+ Submission of monthly newsletter entry which provides information about upcoming activities & class
assignments.
Accomplishments this year:
+ Our Goal at Calvary: To learn and grow together in faith in Christ: with children along-side
parents, parents along-side children, with the support of teachers and clergy.
+ Children’s Summertime Program run by Michelle Clinger & Deacon Jack.
+ Combined 5 th & 6 th grade Classes due to smaller class sizes and in order to have two teachers per
classroom
+ Since September’09- Kindergarten through 8th grade classes have two teachers per classroom
+ Since September’09- Reduced cost of Curriculum by making use of prior year’s Teachers Manuals- a
savings of approximately $20/ teacher 3 times a year.
+September ’11 began using Children’s curriculum papers to facilitate Christian Formation at home
connection. Cost: $10/student
Objectives for next year:
+ Continue to recruit helpers to assist our youth on their lifelong journey of Christian Formation- for the
2011/2012 church school year we have added Adrienne Hahn
+ Continue to organize all Curriculum in order to reduce cost of teacher’s manuals for 2011-2012.
+ Review Curriculum with Teachers, Parents, & Clergy.
+ Recruit new CFC Coordinator for September 2012.

Our ministry is to nurture the spiritual growth of the diverse adult population of Calvary through a
variety of programs and activities. Our Adult Education Committee meets several times a year to
plan and brainstorm ways that this can be accomplished.
Functions included in this area:
We schedule Sunday Forums (10:15-10:45), including one all parish hall event each month and
have expanded these to include our 7:30 congregation. In addition, we arranged for several extra
offerings and continue to evaluate the existing adult education events held at Calvary.
Accomplishments this year:

Seamen’s Institute, and The Rev. Ginny Sheay, who led our Advent Quiet Day, and to our “inside”
leaders—Jean Good, Joanne Martin and the Altar Guild members, Emilie Nawrock,
Judy Schoenherr, Chris Kinnamon, Fred Galano, and Tom Kinnamon again, for “Looking at the
Lessons.”

Librarian/Archivist
How was the Good News of Jesus Christ proclaimed through this ministry this year?
Christians are a history-centered people. The Bible is cherished as a record of God’s mighty acts
over thousands of years. Faith in Jesus Christ is grounded in the four accounts of his earthly life
and ministry recorded in the Gospels. Events in the past are revered for their age and for the
traditions they have produced. We are all a part of that long Christian heritage. The work that we
are doing as Christians in the world today is another chapter in the Church’s history, and a record
of that work needs to be preserved. To that end, Calvary’s library and archives are being
revitalized.
Functions included in this area:
Accomplishments this year:
• Reorganization of All Saints’ Room to accommodate library materials and archives.
• New books purchased for reference use, general congregational interest.
• Gathering of archive materials for sorting, storing, and cataloging.
• Preparation of section of St. Elizabeth’s Room in Annex to receive archive materials.
• Cataloging of archive materials for storage in archives area.
• Cataloging of choral music using “Church Musician” software.
• Display in November “King James Bible: 400 years”.

How has the Good News of Jesus Christ proclaimed through this ministry this year?
Fellowship proclaims the joys of God’s heavenly feast. When we gather after a service, break
bread for dinner, invite a friend into our home, or welcome a newly baptized member, Christ’s
good news is shared. During these times we learn more about each other as brothers and sisters in
Christ and share in our love for the Lord. That is Good News indeed!
Functions included in this area:
The Fellowship Ministry initiates, plans, and runs various parish events throughout the year. It
tends to the congregation’s needs within Calvary church. It is also responsible for the special
events that occur in the parish during the year and weekly Fellowship Hours on Sunday mornings.

The senior youth group is a place where youth in grades 9-12 gather to grow in faith together while

News of Jesus through their actions in helping others. They create a friendly atmosphere and accept all
who wish to join.

MINISTRY AREA: Finance Name: Ray McAlarnen
How has the Good News of Jesus Christ proclaimed through this ministry this year?
We are truly grateful to Calvary members for their generous financial support in 2011. The pledge
income projection remained relatively flat at the 2010 figure and we came quite close to achieving
it again this year. Through careful planning and management of expenses, we were able to
successfully utilize the income from various sources to meet our planned and unplanned
obligations.
Functions included in this area:
The Finance Team is entrusted with managing our financial assets. This includes collecting,
accounting, and reporting of pledges and gifts, managing investment funds, paying bills and
obligations, providing direction in budget planning, and reporting regularly to the Vestry.
Accomplishments this year:
The Finance Team continued to meet its goal of providing fiscally responsible recommendations
for any proposed projects that were not included in the annual budget.
Objectives for next year:
The majority of our income is used to support the day-to-day running of the church as well as
maintain our property. There is a large gap that exists between the amount actually paid to the
Diocese and our suggested Fair Share. An area of focus will be researching ways to increase our
commitment to the Diocese, as well as our financial Outreach efforts for those in need.
It remains a continuing challenge to find areas to cut expenses. Minimal amounts are included in
the 2012 budget for maintenance of the facilities. As needs arise, we will need to raise money to
fund any major capital projects.
Questions and Ideas to be explored for the future:
The Finance Team welcomes all suggestions, particularly for ways to increase our income through
fundraisers, increased emphasis on stewardship, etc.

The counters, the Finance Team, the Treasurer, the wardens for their many hours of dedicated
service, and most importantly, all of our Calvary family who provided financial support this year.

Ministry Area: Property Name: Scott Twaddell
How has the good News of Jesus Christ been proclaimed through ministry this year?
The upkeep of parish buildings and grounds and the Christian fellowship that helps make this
happen enhance the ministry of Christ to the parish and to the community.
Functions included in this area:
1. Organize help with repair and maintenance efforts of the parish.
2. Arrange for the services of private contractors when necessary.
3. Obtain estimates from independent contractors for major expenditures.
4. Plan for the future building and grounds needs of the parish.
5. Provide “first response” to any major maintenance crises as they occur.
Accomplishments this year:
1. Replaced and re-keyed the lock cylinders in the front door of the church, the parish hall door
to the parking lot and the parish hall door facing New York Avenue. This simplifies the
opening and closing of the church particularly during high-use times. Also, the new keys are
numbered and documented through a key holder agreement form, and the new keys can be
reproduced only by the manufacturer. This increases security going forward.
2. Had the parking lot re-lined and the surface sealed, in hopes a full resurfacing job won’t be
necessary for a few years.
3. Installed a new slate walkway from the back kitchen door around to the Memorial Garden.
4. Replaced the back door to the kitchen and cleaned up the front sign in time for the Bishop’s
visit in September.
5. Completed extensive emergency clean-up after hurricane Irene and the Halloween snow
storm. While those weather events caused no substantial property damage, there was a
considerable mess in each event, including flooding in the nursery.
Objectives for next year:
1. Repair the roof leak in the parish hall. (Estimates and contracting are in progress at this
writing.)
2. Repair or replace the annex roof.
3. Replace the gutters on the church and parish hall.
4. Replace the window unit in the parish hall facing New York Avenue with a unit which has
insulated glass.
5. Replace parish hall window units facing Broad Street.
Questions and ideas to explore for the future:
1. Contract professional grass-cutting services due to a lack of help last season.
2. Continue to explore methods to increase handicap access to buildings.
3. Generate interest in a long-term capital improvement fund.

Ministry Area: Welcome Name: Dick Jefferson
How has this ministry proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ this year?
In its drive to introduce the community to Calvary Church and all it has to offer to adults, seniors
and children, the Welcome Ministry has expanded and reformed so as to include Ushers as an
integral part of our organization, enabling us to attend to both doors of the Church.
Functions included in this area:
o Welcome and assist visitors and new parishioners as we would welcome them into our
homes.
o Make visitors as well as parishioners feel comfortable in the Church.
o Accompany visitors to Parish Hall and introduce them to parishioners; and make an effort
to do the same each time they return.
o Pastoral follow-up by personal visits and correspondence.
Accomplishments this year:
This year the Welcome team underwent a minor reorganization, in that it joined forces with the
Ushers to assure that both the front (street) entrance and the Parish Hall entrance were covered by
an usher or a welcomer for each service and that, whenever possible, a Clergy person attends the
front door, especially for Christmas and Easter services.
We have just completed and begun distributing small Calvary “Welcome Bags” for first time
visitors. They are located on the Welcome table.
We greeted and welcomed over 18 visitors in 2011 and received 3 new parishioners.
Objectives for 2012:
To continue and build upon accomplishments of 2011.

How has this ministry proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ this year?
The Worship team supports proclamation of the Good News on Sundays and holidays throughout the
liturgical year by working with clergy, musicians, and service assistants in order to provide meaningful
worship experiences for parishioners and guests of all ages.
Functions included in this area:
� Planning worship services in coordination with the clergy, team leaders, and parishioners.
� Coordination of efforts with all the Worship Team Leaders: Acolytes (Crucifers, Servers, Torch
Bearers), Altar Guild, Choirs, Flower Guild, Lectors, Psalm Leaders, Chalice Ministers, Musicians,
and Ushers.
� Communication with the Parish Administrator for all the Worship teams.
� Planning meetings for all the special feasts of the year.
� Providing active leadership in service assistant training, recruitment, and fellowship.

Altar flowers are provided weekly throughout the year on a rotating schedule.
Plants are used at Easter and Christmas for a two-week period. During Lent and
Advent no flowers are used.

MINISTRY AREA: St. Mary’s Altar Guild Name: Joanne Martin
How has the Good News of Jesus Christ been proclaimed through this ministry this year?
Saint Mary’s Altar Guild continues its ministry with 18 members. They have faithfully and humbly
served the Lord in His Sanctuary.
Functions included in this area:
• Members prepare the sanctuary for worship at three services each Sunday and other
sacraments and offices of the church.
• Saint Mary’s Altar Guild is responsible for cleaning all linens, vestments, silver and brass,
and preparing the church for all special services, such as: Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals,
Anniversary celebration services, Confirmations, Christmas, Easter, and Holy Days.
Accomplishments this year:
• Over the last year Saint Mary’s Altar Guild has purchased new purificators.
• We prepared three services for each Sunday of the year and three services during the
summer months.
• We prepared the Church for several special services including anniversaries and funerals.
• We welcomed two new members to our Altar Guild, Michelleslie Nehrbass and
Nancy Simpson.
Objectives for next year:
• Implement procedures as set forth by updated Altar Guild Procedures manual.
• Recruit new members - We continue to welcome any Parishioner who would like to
become a member of this very rewarding ministry.
Questions and Ideas to be explored for the future:
• Memorials and Donations - Anyone in the congregation is welcome to donate memorials or funds
to the Altar Guild. The smallest donation is welcome. Gifts can be given as a thanksgiving or as a
memorial to a loved one.

Ministry Area: Calvary Music Program Name: Frank Jacobson
How has the Good News of Jesus Christ been proclaimed through this ministry this year?
Through the texts of the music, participation in liturgy and development of Christian community in each
choir or ensemble and by encouraging growth in singers' and instrumentalists' gifts; and use of those gifts
in worship.
Functions included in this area:
Select, plan, prepare, rehearse, and provide music for Sunday services (9:00, 11:00) plus holidays and special events
Meet with Rector and assist in the musical portion of service booklet preparation including selecting and formatting
music, lyrics, and copyright information
Attend Worship Team meetings and support Worship Area as needed.
Maintain Calvary’s sheet music library
Supply skilled accompaniment for all liturgies and special events needing music
Administer and direct parish volunteer choirs and ensembles, including the training and encouragement of new
musicians
Plan and conduct rehearsals:
Sundays at 10:15 (adult choir) and lunch/rehearsals at 12:15 and/or evenings when called.
Alternate Wednesdays at 7:00 pm (family choir.)
Alternate Sundays at 9:15 (cherub choir.)
Arrange and adapt music to suit volunteer availability and skill levels
Maintain Calvary’s pipe organ, piano, keyboards, and other musical equipment
Accomplishments for this year:
Provided sacred music for a year of services and special events.
Expanded instrumental variety in Sunday services, with the help of talented parishioners.
Reviving the recorder ensemble.
Featured instrumentalists to 9:00 am service and Christmas Eve 9 pm and 11pm.
Arranged special music for use at Calvary.
Questions and Ideas to be explored for the future:
Work with Fr. Harry to incorporate music into Sunday school program.
Welcome young musicians who may be studying instruments in school.
Consider special events with music to advertise to the community at large.
Consider ways to increase variety and depth in our worship music.
Develop new criteria for the position of Assistant to the Organist/Choir Director and proceed swiftly towards filling
this important position.

Over the course of 2011 the music program at Calvary has sustained a few losses. Carleen and Gordon Tedeschi and
Joni Craig have retired and moved. We thank them for their special talents and years of participation.
We have, however, been fortunate to add to our Family Choir the voices of Tiffany Galano and Donna Reagan.
In November, our good friends and colleagues, Andrea McGahan, Assistant Organist/Choir Director, and
Tim McGahan, choir member and Cantor, left in order that Andrea might answer a call from The Church
of the Incarnation, Morrisville, PA. Andrea has, for the past five years, grown, flourished, and become
invaluable to the musical activities of Calvary. She left with our encouragement and is bringing to
Incarnation the same gifts with which she favored us at Calvary. We wish her a brilliant future. 33
