RN- BSN Program Overview<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>College</strong>‟s RN-BSN program is to provide registered nurses with<br />

a baccalaureate nursing education, which includes community and population-focused care,<br />

leadership, management and research learning experiences.<br />

Program Outcomes: The RN-BSN program will prepare associate degree nurses so that they<br />

are able to demonstrate the following:<br />

1. Human Flourishing: Incorporate the knowledge and skills learned to help<br />

patients, families and communities continually progress toward fulfillment <strong>of</strong><br />

human capacities.<br />

2. Nursing Judgment: Make a judgment in practice, substantiated with evidence,<br />

which synthesizes nursing science and knowledge from other disciplines in the<br />

provision <strong>of</strong> safe quality care and the promotion <strong>of</strong> the health <strong>of</strong> clients and the<br />

communities.<br />

3. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Identity: Express one‟s identity as a nurse through actions that<br />

reflect integrity, a commitment to evidence-based practice, caring, advocacy, and<br />

safe quality care for diverse clients and their communities, and willingness to<br />

provide leadership in improving care.<br />

4. Spirit <strong>of</strong> Inquiry: Act as a scholar who contributes to the development <strong>of</strong> the<br />

science <strong>of</strong> nursing practice by identifying questions in need <strong>of</strong> study, analyzing<br />

published research, and using available evidence as a foundation to propose<br />

creative, innovative, or evidence-based solutions to clinical practice problems.

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Nursing Admission Requirements<br />

<strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>College</strong> - Upper Level Baccalaureate Division Admission Requirements:<br />

1. Completion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>College</strong> Upper Division/Baccalaureate Admission Application,<br />

including the residency affidavit by the published admission application deadline. All students who<br />

wish to claim <strong>Florida</strong> residency for tuition assessment purposes must complete the residency affidavit<br />

as a part <strong>of</strong> the application for admission process. The applicant must provide sufficient<br />

documentation in accordance with <strong>Florida</strong> Statute 1009.21 in order to substantiate residency as<br />

defined for tuition assessment purposes.<br />

2. The applicant must provide <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from all previously attended schools prior to admission<br />

at <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>College</strong>. This includes <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from high school and/or a state<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Education which issued a GED and/or a home school affidavit as prescribed by <strong>Florida</strong><br />

Statute 1002.41. Additionally, the applicant must provide <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from each previously<br />

attended postsecondary institution, inclusive <strong>of</strong> colleges, universities and/or vocational-technical<br />

schools (other than LCCC or FGC). Applicants to the upper-division level must have earned an AS in<br />

Nursing from a regionally accredited institution. All transcripts from schools based outside <strong>of</strong> the<br />

United States and its territories must be evaluated by a National Association <strong>of</strong> Credential Evaluation<br />

Services (NACES) approved agency.<br />

3. Prospective students who wish to be considered for admission to the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Nursing<br />

program <strong>of</strong>fered through <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>College</strong> should possess at a minimum an Associate <strong>of</strong><br />

Science degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university, with a cumulative grade<br />

point average <strong>of</strong> at least 2.5 in the following prerequisite courses.<br />

4. Prospective students should possess a valid, unrestricted, unencumbered RN license issued through<br />

the State <strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong>. RN license must be current throughout the duration <strong>of</strong> the program. Please see<br />

below for detailed admission requirements to the RN-BSN program.<br />

BSN Program Admission Requirements<br />

1. Applicants must have completed and submitted to the FGC Office <strong>of</strong> Admission a Baccalaureate<br />

Admission Application along with all required, supporting documents.<br />

2. Applicants must complete a RN-BSN program application (located on page 9).<br />

3. Applicants must provide a letter <strong>of</strong> interest describing the reasons for desiring to pursue a BSN degree<br />

and your future career goals.<br />

4. Applicants must submit one pr<strong>of</strong>essional letter <strong>of</strong> recommendation.<br />

5. Applicants must provide documentation <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

Copy <strong>of</strong> current <strong>Florida</strong> Registered Nurse License which must be current throughout the<br />

duration <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />

A copy <strong>of</strong> current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Support for Health Care<br />

Provider Card or Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Rescuer for American Red Cross (ARC) Card. No other<br />

CPR courses will be accepted. AHA CPR-Health Care Provider courses are available<br />

through FGC. Other sources may be used to obtain the AHA Health Care Provider or<br />

ARC card. This must be current throughout the duration <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />

Employment as a Registered Nurse with a minimum <strong>of</strong> one (1) year full-time work<br />

experience in nursing within the last 5 years.<br />

A grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better in general education requirements<br />

6. Upon acceptance to the BSN program, the following requirements with appropriate documentation<br />

must be met to begin the program and current status must be maintained throughout the program:<br />

Copy <strong>of</strong> current health insurance<br />

Copy <strong>of</strong> current malpractice insurance<br />

Current PPD or chest x-ray as appropriate<br />

Tetanus vaccination within the last ten years<br />

BSN Program Graduation Requirements<br />

1. Students must fulfill the requirements <strong>of</strong> the BSN program.<br />

2. Students must fulfill the foreign language requirement by completing two credits in high school or<br />

eight college credits <strong>of</strong> the same foreign language or sign language.<br />

3. Students must successfully complete all courses listed on page 5 and 6 with a C or better.
