Panther Prowlings PROWLINGS Class of 1963 Kathleen Chaplar Corona retired from the United States Postal Service on 12/31/07 after 23 years of rural mail delivery. She received the “Carrier of the Year” award representing her district at the 2007 Annual State Convention. Class of 1966 Barb Peck Salata was honored at the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Banquet where she received the OIAAA Meritorius Service Award. Andrea (Candy) Foreman Ursem, retired from the USN, NC in 2002 after twenty-two years in the military and is now eligible to get paid for it! After sailing around the world as an RN on Oceanographic Research Ships for the last ten years, she worked as a Legal Nurse Consultant between voyages. Candy is staying home to enjoy her seven grandchildren. Her husband Tom, EHS ’65 is still working at Chicago Title Insurance Company, where he has been employed for 42 years. He received his gold watch and in five more years Candy will let him retire too! Class of 1972 Mark McGuire was honored at the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Banquet where he received the award for Athletic Administrator of the Year. Class of 1979 Patrick Radachi recently retired from the city of Dayton Suppression and Medic Department. He is enjoying his free time raising his three sons and two dogs while also volunteering at the American Red Cross. Tom Taylor was honored at the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Banquet where he received the Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award. Class of 1981 Noelle Perkowski Bothe recently moved back to Ohio and is very glad to be back and is looking forward to the Class of 1981’s 30 year reunion. Class of 1984 Brian Wolbers has been hired as Director of Food and Beverage at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles. He is living in Los Angeles while his wife (Elizabeth) is preparing to join him. The job offer was rather sudden and unexpected, but somehow his resume reached the GM in Los Angeles and he got the job! They have never lived outside of Ohio before, but the adjustment to the California lifestyle has been great! Class of 1985 Rev. Christopher Wade, his wife Renee Dean Wade and their six children: Kelsey, 16; Jeremy, 14; Isaac, 12; Micah, 10; Simon, 8; and Noah, 7 returned to the US in June after serving their first missionary term in Croatia. They will be stateside for a one year furlough. They were the first AG Missionaries on the field in Croatia since the war ended. The Wade’s resided in Osijek on the far East side of the country by the Serbian and Hungarian borders. They succeeded in building relationships with the National Church and were able to encourage the pastors, give leadership training as well as marriage counseling and taught the Croatian kids how to play American baseball during the summer and American football in the winter. They helped to build a multi-purpose Youth Club to help get the teenagers off the streets and provide a safe environment to hang out but also to be fed the love of Jesus Christ. It was a very difficult three years in a new culture, with a new language, and in a place full of war-torn depression and resentment towards strangers. However, the family stayed strong by the grace of God. Only fruit can come from the seeds that have been planted. Class of 1986 Paul Jagielski was voted “Best Chef of the West” and his restaurant “Henry’s at the Barn” was also nominated for Best Martini, Best Steak, Best Patio and Best Overall Restaurant by West Shore Magazine. Nicole (Niki) Boyson Rukstalis, received her Bachelor’s degree from Kent State in accounting and her MBA from Case Western Reserve. She worked in private industry for eight years, and then Niki received her Ph.D. in Finance from Ohio State University and taught at Purdue University for 1-½ years. She is now living in Milton, MA and is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Northeastern University in Boston, teaching Finance. Her husband, Dr. Michael Rukstalis, is involved in research of juvenile diabetes at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Niki and Mike have a daughter, Alexandra Marie, who just turned one in June and are expecting their second child in January 2009. Class of 1994 Kate Scheidler married Mike Jannusch on October 13, 2007. The couple met while playing volleyball. The newlyweds honeymooned in Italy and reside in Chicago where Kate works as a registered nurse and Mike is a vice-president at JPMorgan Chase.
Panther Prowlings (cont’d) / Panther Cubs Class of 1997 Stephanie Gnizak married Jason Shoemaker on August 11, 2007. They honeymooned in Hawaii and reside in Cuyahoga Falls. Stephanie works in brand marketing for the JM Smucker Co. and Jason is a computer specialist for the Sherwin Williams Co. Jeffrey Watson recently served a six-month deployment as a Navy Civil Engineer in Iraq. While there, he received a joint commendation medal and was submitted for an impact award (Joint Service Achievement Medal) for initiating on his own a Corps-side breeze session to get construction of Iraqi police stations moving and preparation of presentations for the C7 Director. ENS Watson and his wife are expecting their first child in the beginning of August. Class of 1999 Jason Ginter was recently named the principal timpanist for the San Diego Symphony. He had to beat out scores of other drummers and impress conductor Jahja Ling. Ling said he looks forward to working with Jason. The timpani is very important. It’s like the backbone of an orchestra. Jason and his wife Dawn both have the same love for music. She is a violinist for the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra. Jason graduated in 2003 from the Cincinnati Conservatory with a bachelor’s degree in percussion and is working on a master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon School of Music. Class of 2000 Emily Sluk was recently promoted as the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Montgomery County. Emily is a resident of Dayton and is assigned to the Juvenile Division of the Prosecutor’s Office. She received her J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2007. A native of Oberlin, Ohio, she attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. Class of 2002 Matthew Karl graduated from Gannon University with a Masters in Business Administration in May 2007 and is currently working at the Manufacturers’ Association of Northwest PA in Erie, PA. On April 5, 2008, he married Carolyn Lawrence. Carolyn graduated from Gannon University in 2006 and currently works at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. They currently reside in Erie with their dog and cat. Class of 2003 Erin Hungerman recently graduated from BGSU with a degree in Education/Secondary English Education. She is currently working on her M.S. of Education at Colorado State University. She is employed as the Involvement Coordinator for the GUIDE program within Colorado State’s Department of Housing/Office of Residence Life. PANTHER CUBS Jennifer Polutnik Schlater ’94 and her husband Ben welcomed their 2nd son Owen Michael on October 18, 2007. Dave McCoy ’92, wife Quincy and son Thacher welcomed their daughter Sage Arlington McCoy into the world on April 27, 2008. Michael Gandolfo ’91 and wife Alexandra celebrated the birth of their first child, Paul Joseph. Please stay in touch.
