A.4.5 IETM divisions. The hierarchy of an IETM consists of
introductory matter, planning data and a series of work packages
that include the types of data listed below.
a. Descriptive information and principles of operation.
b. Troubleshooting information.
c. Procedural information (operator and maintenance tasks).
d. Supporting information.
A.4.6 Parts information. There should be links to the parts
information database where the parts are called out in the text
and on the graphics where the parts are identified. Parts
information should be used to:
a. Identify a part or parts by part number and name.
b. Provide any additional parts data required to order the
part.
c. Show the relationship of a part to other parts of the
system or equipment.
d. Enhance or clarify the supporting operator, descriptive, or
theory of operation data.
A.4.7 Referencing.
A.4.7.1 Other documents. When authorized by the acquiring
activity, reference should be made only to other documents
available and authorized to the user. Reference should be made
by publication number. References to pending publication actions
should not be made.
A.4.7.2 Government specifications and standards. When authorized
by the acquiring activity, reference should be made to the basic
publication number for Government specifications and standards.
A.4.7.3 Within the IETM. When it becomes necessary to reference to
other work packages, descriptive information, maintenance tasks,
or other data within the same IETM, it should be linked and
referenced by title or appropriate text. The title should be
the same used in the list of contents.
A.4.7.4 Equipment, components, and parts. Reference to parts of
the equipment and to equipment components may be by
nomenclature, model, type and or reference designator. The
referenced items may be linked to a graphic for identification
and location.
A.4.7.5 National Stock Numbers (NSNs) and Part Numbers (P/Ns).
NSNs and part numbers should not be included in any text,
tables, or illustration contained in a work package. NSN and
