POLICY FOR PREPARATION AND STANDARDIZATION OF NAVAIR
INTERACTIVE ELECTRONIC TECHNICAL MANUALS (IETMS)
(6) When applying S1000D, participate with the Product Data
Division in the development of a single set of documented
business rules that will support all NAVAIR programs.
(7) When procuring or using IETMs, provide representatives
to the NAVAIR IETM working group.
(8) Work with the Aviation Readiness and Resource Analysis
Department Head to ensure that budgeting and funding is set
aside to author or convert TMs as necessary, and to permit
the use of the approved standards.
(9) Receive approval from the Aviation Readiness and
Resource Analysis Department Head, AIR 6.8.5, and AIR-00
CIO functional area manager subject matter experts for the
development of alternative toolkits/viewers and changes to
the existing toolkit including the viewer.
(10) Forward any deviation/waiver requests from the
standards/specifications, to the NAVAIR 6.8.5 Program
Technical Data Liaisons. Include a description of the
proposed deviation/waiver, all rationale to support the
request, and impact of denial.
b. NAVAIR Product Data Division shall:
(1) Form and chair NAVAIR’s IETM working group, comprised
of representatives from programs procuring or using IETMs.
The purpose of this group is to develop and maintain NAVAIR
IETM requirements, ensure interoperability, and eliminate
stove-piped or proprietary solutions.
(2) Act as NAE SME, and portfolio manager of all funds and
task assignments contributing to NAVAIR Enterprise IETM
business rules and viewer(s).
(3) Review and respond to any deviation/waiver requests
submitted per paragraph 4.a.(10) of this instruction.
