F. On Scene Communications. On scene communications will normally
be in the MF and/or VHF bands on frequencies designated for distress
and safety traffic by radiotelephony or NBDP. Satellite
communications may also be used by participants if equipped with ship
earth stations and this mode is desired. These communications will
be between the ship in distress and assisting units and will relate
to the provision of assistance to the ship or to the rescue of
survivors. Aircraft on scene communications are normally on 3023,
4125 or 5680 kHz. In addition, SAR aircraft should be equipped to
communicate on 2182 kHz and/or 156.8 MHz as well as on other maritime
mobile frequencies.
