5.A.1. b. Interference. When an activity outside the <strong>Coast</strong><br />

<strong>Guard</strong> reports that a <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> station is causing<br />

harmful interference, take the following action:<br />

(1) Provide all requested information necessary to<br />

identify the source of the interference. Assist in<br />

defining the nature of the interference problem.<br />

(2) Initiate immediate corrective action if the<br />

interference is being caused by <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> equipment<br />

malfunctioning, emitting spurious emissions or<br />

off-frequency operation etc.<br />

(3) Cooperatively assist in conducting reasonable tests<br />

necessary to determine the specific source and nature<br />

of the interference. Log or otherwise document<br />

significant details, including transmitter and system<br />

configuration (mode, frequency, antenna etc.) used.<br />

(4) Shutdown the transmitter involved at the earliest<br />

operational opportunity, on a temporary basis only,<br />

to correct a deficiency or for further investigation.<br />

Notify the operational commander promptly of a<br />

shutdown. Reactivate as operationally required<br />

provided pre-use check confirms proper operation.<br />

(5) Demonstrate a cooperative, courteous attitude at all<br />

times. If you are maintaining an on-going dialog with<br />

the complainant, advise your findings or planned<br />

actions as a courtesy. In the cse of commonly shared<br />

channels, minimize use to the extent prudent and as<br />

mission operations permit. You may agree to limit<br />

transmissions or shore use to a degree consistant with<br />

operational requirements, but only on an informal<br />

basis. Sign no agreements or discuss frequency<br />

assignment rights, dates of first use or nature of<br />

communications handled. Report questionable or<br />

continuing problems to the Commandant (G-TIM) for<br />

further guidance.
