CHAPTER 5 RADIO INTERFERENCE AND RADIO VIOLATION REPORTS
A. Radio Interference Reports
1. Action to be Taken.
a. Interference. When harmful interference to radio
spectrum dependent systems is experienced by Coast Guard
units the following action shall be taken:
(1) Obtain identification of the station causing harmful
interference. Maximum effort should be made to
identify the interfering station using all means
available. Assistance from other Coast Guard units,
field offices of the FCC and other military commands
should be solicited to help identify, locate and
obtain frequency measurements of the interfering
station if necessary.
(2) If it is determined that the interference is being
caused by a station in the same locality as the Coast
Guard station, endeavor to eliminate the interference
by local arrangements.
(3) If it is determined that the interference is not
local, or if efforts to resolve the problem are
unsuccessful, report the interference as indicated
below:
(a) If the interference impairs the ability of the
unit to perform its mission, prepare a message,
using the data format contained in CG2861 Report
of Radio Interference (figure 5-1), addressed for
action to the appropriate operational commander,
information to the Commandant (G-TIM) and such
other commands as appropriate.
(b) If the interference does not impair the ability
of the unit to perform its mission, submit CG2861
Report of Radio Interference to the Commandant
(G-TIM) with a copy to the reporting unit's Area
Commander, District Commander and copy to the
unit's file.
(4) All cases of harmful interference should be reported.
Separate reports should be made for each recurring
case of harmful interference. A single report which
summarizes a case of harmful interference over a
period of time (not to exceed one month) may be made
after the initial report. Summary reports should
continue until the harmful interference problem is
resolved. In the absence of further reports, or unless
notified otherwise, the Commandant will assume that
the harmful interference problem has ceased or been
resolved.
