3.G. Radar Beacons (Racon). Radar beacons are used as aids to<br />

navigation or to mark aids to navigation, on the display of a civil<br />

marine radar. Types used in the U.S. include a pseudo random slow<br />

sweep, stepped sweep, and frequency agile racons. All racons but the<br />

frequency agile type operate only in the 9300-9500 MHz band. The<br />

frequency agile Racons operate in both the 2900-3100 and 9300-9500<br />

MHz bands. A racon must not be operated on ship or any mobile<br />

platform.
