F. Radio Direction Finding 1. Frequencies. Frequencies for radio direction finding services are listed in Annex N. Search and rescue homing and direction finding frequencies are listed in Annex J. 2. SESEF. Special radio direction finder calibration services are no longer provided. <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> vessels may use the U.S. Navy Shipboard Electronic Systems Evaluation Facilities (SESEF), for direction finder calibrations. Locations of SESEF facilities are as follows: Norfolk, VA; San Diego, CA; Charleston, NC; Long Beach, CA; Puget Sound, WA; and Hawaii. For additional information refer to COMDTINST M200.3B. 3-1
3.G. Radar Beacons (Racon). Radar beacons are used as aids to navigation or to mark aids to navigation, on the display of a civil marine radar. Types used in the U.S. include a pseudo random slow sweep, stepped sweep, and frequency agile racons. All racons but the frequency agile type operate only in the 9300-9500 MHz band. The frequency agile Racons operate in both the 2900-3100 and 9300-9500 MHz bands. A racon must not be operated on ship or any mobile platform.
