F. Maritime SAR Operations by OG Vehicles.
1. Trailered Boats. The Coast Guard maintains number of
trailered boats that are used for SAR operations. When
enroute to a SAR incident it may be necessary for persons or
personnel in the truck, or van, to establish communications
with the craft in trouble on an appropriate maritime VHF-FM
frequency, if the craft is so equipped, and obtain additional
information relative to the incident. Also, once the boat is
launched, communications between the boat and persons in the
truck may be necessary to facilitate the rescue.
2. Operating On Mobil Frequencies. National radio policy
prohibits land mobile stations from operating on maritime
mobile frequencies. A waiver of this policy to permit land
mobile stations to operate on maritime frequencies for SAR
coordination is in efect. This waiver states "Stations
onboard government vehicles used for towing trailered boats
engaged in SAR operations, or SAR training exercises, are
authorized to operate on VHF-FM maritime mobile frequencies
with stations in the maritime mobile service".
