582 [Orig] MOORING, TOWING AND TIE DOWN FITTINGS<br />

582-1 [Orig] General<br />

582-1.1 [Orig] All towing bitts, mooring bitts and chocks shall be free of sharp edges that<br />

might cause damage to mooring lines or personnel. The working surface of each<br />

bitt and chock shall be polished.<br />

582-2 [Orig] Towing Fittings<br />

582-2.1 [Orig] An aft towing bitt shall be provided on the centerline. The towing bitt shall<br />

be sized to accept one round turn and three figure eights of the towline.<br />

582-2.2 [Orig] The RB-M towing bitt and fittings shall be designed with a factor of safety of<br />

1.1 on the as welded yield strength of the fitting material under an applied load,<br />

equal to the breaking strength of the towing line supplied, as per Section 582-3,<br />

applied at the highest point of the fitting.<br />

582-3 [Orig] Towline Reel<br />

582-3.1 [A00014] A towline reel shall be provided and outfitted with 2-3/4-inch<br />

circumference, Double Braided Nylon Line with 12" eye splices at each end so the<br />

total length of the line is 600 feet to the center of each eye splice. The reel shall be<br />

installed in a location that is readily accessible to the towing bitt. The bitter end of<br />

the line shall be attached to the reel using a light line or other means to provide a<br />

weak link.<br />

582-3.2 [<strong>A00064</strong>] The towline reel shall be provided with a removable crank handle and a<br />

locking mechanism that prevents it from free wheeling when not in use, the reel<br />

shall have seven evenly spaced holes to allow the wheel to be locked in<br />

multiple positions.<br />

582-4 [Orig] Mooring and Securing Fittings<br />

582-4.1 [Orig] The RB-M shall have a minimum of 4 sets of mooring bitts (or cleats) and<br />

chocks (as necessary), sized for the towline, around the perimeter of the RB-M to<br />

allow for mooring and alongside towing of a variety of craft types. The working<br />

surface of each bitt and chock shall be polished.<br />

582-5 [Orig] Hoisting by Slings Under Hull (Travel – Lift)<br />

582-5.1 [Orig] The RB-M shall be designed to allow lifting of the boat without damage by<br />

dual sling lifts, commonly referred to as a Travel Lift, where the slings pass under<br />

the hull.<br />

582-5.2 [Orig] When using this type of lift the load on each sling shall not exceed 20,000<br />

pounds in the hoisting condition.<br />

582-5.3 [Orig] The use of dual sling lifts shall not require any protective blocking to be<br />

installed.<br />

582-5.4 [Orig] Sling positions shall be permanently marked on the exterior of the boat in<br />

locations that can be easily seen from the main deck.<br />
