CHECKING THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT LOWER<br />
ARM BALL JOINT<br />
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:<br />
Towing and lifting) (MR 370, 02A, Lifting equipment).<br />
1 - Checking the condition<br />
a Check:<br />
- the crimping of the gaiter on the lower ball joint,<br />
- that the gaiter is not torn.<br />
a If the front driveshaft lower arm ball joint gaiter is in<br />
poor condition or not crimped, replace the front driveshaft<br />
lower arm (see 31A, Front axle components,<br />
Front driveshaft lower arm: Removal -<br />
Refitting, page 31A-22) .<br />
2 - Check the fitting of the lower arm ball joint<br />
a Check that there is no play in the front driveshaft<br />
lower arm ball joint:<br />

- from a position underneath the vehicle,<br />
- using both hands, hold the front driveshaft lower<br />
arm as close as possible to the wheel,<br />
- push downwards several times.<br />
a If there is play in the front driveshaft lower arm ball<br />
joint, replace the front driveshaft lower arm (see<br />
31A, Front axle components, Front driveshaft<br />
lower arm: Removal - Refitting, page 31A-22) .<br />
a Check:<br />

- the "front driveshaft lower arm ball joint - front driveshaft<br />
lower arm bolt" assembly is correctly positioned,<br />
- the tightening torque of the stud (1) on the front driveshaft<br />
lower arm ball joint (see 31A, Front axle<br />
components, Front driveshaft lower arm: Removal<br />
- Refitting, page 31A-22) .<br />
