Front hub carrier bearing: Removal - Refitting<br />

REMOVAL<br />

a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:<br />

Towing and lifting) (MR 370, 02A, Lifting equipment).<br />

a Remove the front driveshaft hub carrier (see 31A,<br />

Front axle components, Front driveshaft hub<br />

carrier: Removal - Refitting, page 31A-12) .<br />

a Remove the bearing, applying pressure to the inner<br />

bearing bush with a 46 mm diameter tube.<br />

REFITTING<br />

a Remove:<br />

- the hub, with the press, applying pressure with a 41<br />

mm diameter tube,<br />

- the circlip.<br />

a<br />

WARNING<br />

To ensure that the wheel speed sensor works<br />

properly, do not mark the sensor target on the<br />

bearing.<br />

a It is essential to check the condition of the hub surface<br />

and the hub carrier bore before refitting the bearing.<br />

a Replace the front driveshaft hub carrier if it is faulty.<br />

a Clean:<br />

a<br />

- the inner and outer surfaces of the new bearing in<br />

contact with the front driveshaft hub carrier and the<br />

hub,<br />

-the surfaces of the front driveshaft hub carrier in<br />

contact with the new bearing,<br />

- the hub surfaces in contact with the new bearing.<br />

WARNING<br />

Do not press the bearing's internal bush so as to<br />

avoid damaging the bearing (very high shrink-fitting<br />

force).<br />
