IMPORTANT<br />

- Before carrying out any work on a safety system<br />

component, lock the airbag computer using diagnostic<br />

tool (see 88C, Airbags and pretensioners,<br />

Airbag computer locking procedure).<br />

- When this function is activated, all the trigger lines<br />

are inhibited and the airbag warning light on the<br />

instrument panel is continuously lit (with the ignition<br />

on).<br />

- Handling pyrotechnic systems (airbags or pretensioners)<br />

near to a source of heat or flame is forbidden:<br />

there is a risk of triggering the airbags or<br />

pretensioners.<br />

a Disconnect the connector from the accelerator pedal<br />

position potentiometer.<br />

a Remove:<br />

- the mounting bolts (1) from the accelerator pedal,<br />

- the accelerator pedal.<br />

WARNING<br />

When the brake pedal is replaced, the pedal is supplied<br />

fitted with a pin. (Fre. 1752).<br />

When removing and refitting (without replacing the<br />

brake pedal), always fit the pin (Fre. 1752) during<br />

removal.<br />

REMOVAL<br />

a Disconnect the battery, starting with the negative<br />

terminal.<br />

a Remove:<br />

- the dashboard (see 83A, Instrument Panel, Dashboard),<br />

- the steering column (see 36B, Power-assisted<br />

steering, Steering column),<br />

- the dashboard cross member (see MR 371 Bodywork,<br />

42A, Upper front structure, Dashboard<br />

cross member).<br />
