II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART<br />

CONCERNED<br />

1 - NSK column<br />

a Clip on:<br />

- the instrument panel lower trim piece,<br />

- the instrument panel upper trim piece.<br />

Note:<br />

When replacing an NSK type steering column on<br />

vehicles not equipped with ESP, do not remove<br />

the steering wheel angle sensor located on the<br />

new steering column.<br />

a Refit:<br />

- the steering column,<br />

- the steering column nuts.<br />

a Torque tighten the steering column nuts (21 N.m).<br />

a Clip the steering column rotary switch wiring harness.<br />

a Refit the column lock.<br />

a Connect the column lock connector.<br />

a Refit the column lock bolt.<br />

a Torque tighten the steering column lock bolt (8<br />

N.m).<br />

2 - TRW column<br />

a Respect the direction of fitting for the universal joint<br />

cam bolt and nut.<br />

a Refit the universal joint.<br />

a Refit the cam nut and the fork bolt.<br />

a Finger tighten the cam nut and the yoke bolt.<br />

a Immobilise the cam nut in its housing (on the universal<br />

joint).<br />

a Pretighten the universal joint nut and bolt.<br />

a Refit the steering column.<br />

a Connect the connectors.<br />

a Refit the steering column nuts, starting with the<br />

lower threaded stud the furthest away and finishing<br />

with the upper threaded stud.<br />

a Torque tighten the steering column nuts (21 N.m).<br />

a Clip the steering column rotary switch wiring harness.<br />

a Connect:<br />

- the electric power-assisted steering computer<br />

power connector using a 4 mm wide and 0.5 mm<br />

thick screwdriver,<br />

-the electric power-assisted steering computer signal<br />

connector using a 4 mm wide and 0.5 mm<br />

thick screwdriver.<br />

a Refit the column lock.<br />

a Connect the column lock connector.<br />

a Refit the electric steering column lock bolt.<br />

a Torque tighten the electric steering column lock<br />

bolt (8 N.m).<br />
