attitude towards trans-, post-, and neo-avant-garde has not brought the
liberation it promised, nor solved any problems, and in fact created some
new ones. The only remedy to this can be a dynamic balance between new
and old. The final text of the fourth part and the entire volume Displaced
art. Shiftart by Antoni Porczak is dedicated to the newest phenomena in
art that are known to all, but cause the most problems when it comes to
describing them, as describing what is in statu nascendi is always a very
risky operation. The author looks at the type of artistic activity that thinks
nothing of the lamentations over it, it is what is the most recent. It is the
art of interaction, installation and remix. In it, all factors change: authorship,
function, perception, its ontological foundation and place, social status
and what gives meaning to the work of art thus understood and executed.
If it is still art as it is understood it today, or the real form of the art
of tomorrow, cannot be determined at present, only time will show.
The 28 texts collected in this volume present a certain outline of
the discussions currently in progress in the arts community, both among
practitioners and theorists, over the condition and character of contemporary
art in the first decade of the 21 st century. Naturally there is no claim
to completeness of the reported discussions or a full overview of the problems
connected with the issue. Rather, the book registers a certain tone
and characteristic stances. We leave the extent of the success of this undertaking
for the reader to decide, inviting to lecture in hope of favourable
reception.
