<strong>Heavy</strong> <strong>Lifting</strong> <strong>Strand</strong> <strong>Jacks</strong><br />
<strong>Strand</strong> <strong>Jacks</strong> were developed in the early 1970s and today are widely recognised as the<br />
most sophisticated heavy lifting solution.<br />
When <strong>Enerpac</strong> first entered the heavy lifting market strand jack technology was in its<br />
infancy. <strong>Enerpac</strong> immediately recognised the shortcomings of the existing technology.<br />
Innovative design developments have improved reliability, durability, versatility and safety<br />
leading the <strong>Enerpac</strong> <strong>HSL</strong> range of strand jacks to be adopted as the standard for heavy lifting.<br />
<strong>Enerpac</strong> offers two sizes of strands: 15.7mm and 18mm diameter.<br />
As well as the strand jacks design, growing application pressures have necessitated<br />
a comprehensive and failsafe control system. <strong>Enerpac</strong> developed an answer and<br />
introduced Smart Cylinder Control, or the SCC control philosophy. The Smartbox SCC<br />
control ensures full control of the lifting and lowering operation up to maximum 60 strands<br />
and is suitable for all sizes of <strong>HSL</strong> strand jacks.<br />
A closer look at <strong>Enerpac</strong> <strong>Strand</strong> <strong>Jacks</strong><br />
<strong>Strand</strong> jacks essentially comprise of three<br />
different hydraulically operated cylinders<br />
or jacks:<br />
• Top mini jack<br />
• Main lifting jack<br />
• Bottom mini jack<br />
The mini jacks control the opening and<br />
closing of the top and bottom clamps or<br />
anchors. However, in case of pressure-loss<br />
the clamps are automatically mechanically<br />
closed, holding the suspended load thereby<br />
ensuring fail-safe operation.<br />
A major design improvement, now standard<br />
feature in all <strong>Enerpac</strong> <strong>HSL</strong> strand jacks, is<br />
the addition of telescopic pipes, which<br />
guide the strands through the strand jack,<br />
between the top anchor and the bottom<br />
anchor, preventing strand jamming &<br />
bird caging.<br />
Special corrosion protection on the plunger<br />
allows long lasting operation, even in the<br />
harshest corrosive offshore environment.<br />

Each system is supplied with the SCC<br />
hardware & software package as standard.<br />
The SCC system not only monitors progress,<br />
it controls the operation within safe working<br />
limits specific to the job and client demands.<br />
For example maximum permissible load and<br />
synchronous position at each and between<br />
lifting positions, being two of the parameters<br />
that the SCC uses to precisely manage the<br />
lifting operation.<br />
Powering your <strong>Strand</strong> <strong>Jacks</strong><br />
Besides the strand jacks and the SCC control<br />
system, <strong>Enerpac</strong> also offers a comprehensive<br />
range of hydraulic power packs to power<br />
the strand jacks.<br />
Power packs can be supplied to supply oil<br />
and power one or more strand jacks,<br />
depending on the project demands or<br />
customer preference and driven either<br />
by electric motor or diesel engine.<br />
RS485 network allowing “daisy chain”<br />
connections of the power packs up to<br />
max. 2 x 30 power packs.<br />
Starting at 3kW(4HP) up to the largest<br />
standard diesel power pack at 120kW<br />
