Heavy Lifting Strand Jacks
Strand Jacks were developed in the early 1970s and today are widely recognised as the
most sophisticated heavy lifting solution.
When Enerpac first entered the heavy lifting market strand jack technology was in its
infancy. Enerpac immediately recognised the shortcomings of the existing technology.
Innovative design developments have improved reliability, durability, versatility and safety
leading the Enerpac HSL range of strand jacks to be adopted as the standard for heavy lifting.
Enerpac offers two sizes of strands: 15.7mm and 18mm diameter.
As well as the strand jacks design, growing application pressures have necessitated
a comprehensive and failsafe control system. Enerpac developed an answer and
introduced Smart Cylinder Control, or the SCC control philosophy. The Smartbox SCC
control ensures full control of the lifting and lowering operation up to maximum 60 strands
and is suitable for all sizes of HSL strand jacks.
A closer look at Enerpac Strand Jacks
Strand jacks essentially comprise of three
different hydraulically operated cylinders
or jacks:
• Top mini jack
• Main lifting jack
• Bottom mini jack
The mini jacks control the opening and
closing of the top and bottom clamps or
anchors. However, in case of pressure-loss
the clamps are automatically mechanically
closed, holding the suspended load thereby
ensuring fail-safe operation.
A major design improvement, now standard
feature in all Enerpac HSL strand jacks, is
the addition of telescopic pipes, which
guide the strands through the strand jack,
between the top anchor and the bottom
anchor, preventing strand jamming &
bird caging.
Special corrosion protection on the plunger
allows long lasting operation, even in the
harshest corrosive offshore environment.

Each system is supplied with the SCC
hardware & software package as standard.
The SCC system not only monitors progress,
it controls the operation within safe working
limits specific to the job and client demands.
For example maximum permissible load and
synchronous position at each and between
lifting positions, being two of the parameters
that the SCC uses to precisely manage the
lifting operation.
Powering your Strand Jacks
Besides the strand jacks and the SCC control
system, Enerpac also offers a comprehensive
range of hydraulic power packs to power
the strand jacks.
Power packs can be supplied to supply oil
and power one or more strand jacks,
depending on the project demands or
customer preference and driven either
by electric motor or diesel engine.
RS485 network allowing “daisy chain”
connections of the power packs up to
max. 2 x 30 power packs.
Starting at 3kW(4HP) up to the largest
standard diesel power pack at 120kW
