INSIGHT
89
Arianna walking through the streets of Paris
Where did the idea for this journey come from?
I liked the idea of presenting design in a real life context, even one as extreme as the
nomadic one, in order to “strip” design from its usual image of objects in a catalogue.
Which of the objects that went with you proved to be the most useful?
The suitcase. It’s a fascinating object, full of meaning and an excellent travelling
companion. Then, when aesthetics are in harmony with functionality, is there any
better design?
How did you choose your travelling companions?
Depending on their sensitivity to photographic images.
How was it, living together in 14 m2?
Like life itself, sometimes great fun, sometimes a little complicated, but always
enlightening.
Which cities were the most interested in your arrival?
Berlin, Hamburg, London. Tremendous creative ferment in Haarlem in Holland, and
Copenhagen.
What will stay with you the most from this experience?
The awareness that there are other lifestyles, and that the same concept of “home”
has its origin in our minds long before belonging to any fixed physical place. Also, the
fact that quality can be found in small things.
Any future projects?
Lots and lots. First of all, to create a more “human” language in order to communicate
design products. During the Milan design week Hometta will be travelling around the
city’s streets.
