“Ruth’s Boutique” is named in
honor of Ruth McGoldrick in
recognition of her longtime
dedication and volunteer service as
General Chairman of the Debbie-
Rand Thrift Shoppe. Under Ruth’s
leadership for the past 32 years, the
Shoppe expanded its position as
the Debbie-Rand Memorial Service
League’s largest contributor of funds
to Boca Raton Regional Hospital,
raising an average of more than
$450,000 annually.
Ruth joined the League in 1973 and
was assigned to the Thrift Shoppe.
She served as President of Debbie-
Rand from May 1976 through May
1978 and became General Chairman
of the Thrift Shoppe in 1980. In
1989, she was named Boca Raton’s
“Woman Volunteer of the Year,”
an honor awarded to the woman
who, through her volunteer service,
had made the most significant
contribution to the city of Boca
Raton in that year.
She continued in her
position as General
Chairman, setting
new sales records
by employing her
management skills
to attract community
donations and
new customers,
Ruth McGoldrick
while retaining
repeat buyers.
Ruth was famous for the popular
annual Thrift Shoppe Fashion Shows,
which featured volunteer models
wearing couture fashions available
for purchase in the Shoppe. Through
June 2012, she had accumulated
38,754 volunteer hours.
In May 2012, Ruth was honored by
the Debbie-Rand Board of Trustees
by being named Chairman Emeritus
of the Debbie-Rand Thrift Shoppe.

Rachel and her husband Alvin,
also a volunteer, moved to Boca
Raton as snowbirds 17 years ago
from Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
Over the past 16 seasons, she
RACHEL WEINER has worked in the Gift Shop,
Dietary, and most recently, as
a Nursing Service Assistant on the 5th floor.
Volunteering from late October through April
each year, she has logged over 2,900 hours.
When the Weiners go back to Pennsylvania,
they return to Forbes Regional Hospital, where
they have volunteered for 37 years. Rachel also
volunteers up north with Meals On Wheels.
The Weiners have one daughter, who lives in
Massachusetts, and one son, who lives in New
Jersey. They also have three grandchildren –
two granddaughters and one grandson. In her
spare time, Rachel enjoys reading.
Thank you, Rachel, for your many years of
volunteer service!

The annual D-RMSL meeting, award ceremony and luncheon were
held on Wednesday, May 8 in the Dawson Theatre. Our new board is
pictured above. Thank you to all who contributed their time and talents
to make this another wonderful event for Debbie-Rand. Photos of the
annual meeting are featured in this edition of InnerView on page 3.
Giving a Special Gift
Is someone you know having a special birthday or anniversary and
you don’t know what to give them? Why not honor them by making
a contribution in their name to the Debbie-Rand Memorial Service
League. Their name will appear in the newsletter and you will receive
an in-kind donation for the amount donated. In turn, if your donation
is $20 or more, the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation will give
you credit toward your benefactor status.
You may also wish to remember a loved one or friend that may be
deceased. What better way to memorialize them.
Remember, for the person who has everything, a gift to the Debbie-

VHA Leadership Award
FOR CLINICAL EXCELLENCE
VHA Inc. awarded Boca Raton Regional Hospital the 2013 VHA
Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence. This recognition honors
the Hospital for achieving national performance standards for clinical
quality, safety and patient experience. Boca Regional was one of only
40 VHA member hospitals this year to receive the award.
VHA is a national healthcare network of more than 1,350 not-for-profit
hospital systems and 72,000 non-acute facilities that work together to
achieve new levels of clinical performance and operational efficiency.
The VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence recognizes
organizations that achieve top performance in care measures tracked
by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Winners are
selected based on a composite score consisting of three elements: 1)
Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Total Performance Score, which includes
Core Measures and the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare
Providers and Services (HCAHPS) survey results; 2) 30-day readmission
rates; and 3) Medicare cost data.
By recognizing institutions for their commitment and achievements,
VHA hopes that other health systems will apply these leading practices
in their own organizations to further enhance the overall level of quality
in our nation’s healthcare system.

Congratulations
SIR ROBERT QUILLARD AWARDED KNIGHT OF LEGION OF HONOR
On May 3rd, our very own Thrift Shoppe volunteer, Robert Quillard,
was awarded the Knight of Legion of Honor award from the French
Consulate for his decision to fight for freedom during World War II.
The Consulate General of France wrote to Robert, “…was an admirable
act, demonstrating your courage and selflessness. The solidarity you
lent our country and people as a soldier will never be forgotten. Please
be assured that we are eternally grateful.”

Robert received France’s highest military distinction and is now inducted
into the French Legion of Honor. He received this honor among family
and friends. In addition to this recognition, Robert is a recipient of the
Bronze Star for military valor from the United States of America.
Congratulations, Robert. We are very proud of you and glad you have
been part of our family of volunteers since September 6, 2005!

Included in the donations to Boca Raton Regional Hospital are a new truck for
the Thrift Shoppe and the Thrift Shoppe renovation, as well as new audio visual
equipment for the Dawson Theatre, the underwriting of a Bereavement Program
for maternity, a television for the imaging center waiting room and a new $100,000
urinalysis system for the Hospital lab.
