Welcome to our 7th Annual Bull Sale. Although it is only #7, we have been in the Simmental purebred industry since 1973 and the Angus
division was added in 2002. The strength is the cow herd and an unwavering belief in the type of cattle that the industry needs to be profitable.
The top end of our heifers is always kept for replacements, allowing us to speed up genetic improvement and put extreme pressure on culling.
Udders, disposition and feet are at the top of that list, as we want our customers to know that they won't be adding unwanted traits with a bull
purchase. For the most part, the bottom sides of the pedigrees are predominantly 'Springcreek' breeding. Our customers can be confident that
the culling has been done and that they can buy with confidence.
We are very happy to be able to work with Craig Davidson of Black Sand Cattle Co. Along with the excellent group of bulls he has on offer,
Craig brings a lot to the table in terms of fresh marketing and innovative ideas that will benefit our industry. We share common philosophies
and a passion for the seed stock industry. By working together, we feel that our sale offering will better meet the needs of our customers.
We have a larger selection of 'Bestbeef Bulls' this year. All of our top purebred Simmental heifers are bred to industry leading Angus sires for
their first calf. The resulting bull calves (Bestbeef Bulls) will have the top genetics from both breeds. This is an opportunity for the buyer to add
these combined genetics in one shot. They are exceptional bulls; don't overlook them and the impact they may have on your herd.
We are proud that our 'In Pursuit of Perfection' catalogue offers industry leading information. It includes pictures of all bulls, their dams and
sires; polled and coat colour status; Igenity profiles, as well as individual performance, EPDs and pedigrees. We have the genetics you need
to be profitable in today's market. Select with confidence.
We encourage pre-sale visits so that customers
will have more time to assess the bulls and their
dams. Our search for herd sires is never ending;
I must see a potential herd bull's dam before
using a sire in my herd, and I suspect you would
like to do the same.
Our business is built on repeat customers.
Please join us on Thursday March 8th...we would
like to be partners in your success.
We are, as always - In Pursuit of Perfection!
can be very valuable when selecting a bull to accomplish the
a call well before the sale to discuss your requirements. “We
guarantee full satisfaction upon delivery or you don’t own them”.
IPOP Customer Care Programs - New 2012!
IPOP (In Pursuit of Perfection) Bull Sale Customer Care Winter Feeding Program
The objective of this program is to work with our customers to foster the yearling bull through the most critical year of his life -- the first winter
after his inaugural breeding season. In the case of our sale, most of these bulls are yearling bulls. The challenge for many producers, but not
all, is where do you put them? They are usually a nuisance and if you put them with the mature bulls they never do as well. Tying up a pen or
field to feed just a few animals becomes a challenge as well.
The program is built on a sliding scale which works off the purchase price of the bull or bull average (multiple bulls). IPOP Bull Sale will charge
the customer the amount left owing on the feeding program in that purchase bracket. If a purchase price is between a trigger point, it will be
rounded down. Based on industry feedback the wintering of a yearling bull will be $700 +/- per head.
The cost for the feeding program will be charged on delivery of the bull in the fall, based on the range you fall into for that bull or group of
bulls, or no charge at all! IPOP Bull Sale will deal with the feeding co-operator on complete feeding program costing.
The sign up for this program will be on sale day or shortly after the spring IPOP Bull Sale to allow time to coordinate the winter program.
If the customer does not wish to utilize this support tool then there will be no credit given for feeding their own bulls.
The Wintering Program will start in mid October and run to April 1 st . If additional time is required by the customer on either side of this
program (fall or extended spring) it will be at the customer’s expense and at the convenience of the feeding cooperator. All bull deliveries in
the fall will be cordinated into a 3-4 day window.
Scale :
Purchase price of bull (or average of bulls) and the corresponding feeding cost per bull:
$2500-$3000 - $600 winter feeding cost
$3500 - $500 winter feeding cost
$4000 - $400 winter feeding cost
$4500 - $300 winter feeding cost
$5000 - $200 winter feeding cost
$5500 - $100 winter feeding cost
$6000 and above – winter feeding cost included in the purchase price of the bull
IPOP Bull Sale “Live Long Bull Warranty”
The goal of this program is again to work with our customers in sharing the risk on bulls that will not work based on factors out of their control.
We also want to take more responsibility in seeing a bull through to maturity and ensuring things like feet and legs stand up. A bull purchase is
a major investment not just for the future of your herd but in the expectation of a longer productive life of the animal.
We also assume there is risk past year one, even though most bulls are only insured in their first year of service. We want to work with our
customers through to maturity. The time your bull spends in the Winter Feeding Program will be included in this warranty.
If the IPOP Bull Sale “Live Long Bull Warranty” is initiated, it will be paid out in the form of a credit towards the purchase of a bull in the
subsequent year’s sale. Our goal is to ensure customer satisfaction and to help protect your investment through to maturity. We are your
partner in business!
Welcome and thanks for taking the time to read through and view our “In Pursuit of Perfection Bull Sale Catalogue”.
As the years pass and we get a little bit older and hopefully wiser, our passion for the cattle business only gets stronger. When
you have this passion you see it eventually work its way into people around you and you want to surround yourself with people
with that same drive. As I write this intro and the write-ups for the bulls, I have my six year old daughter Ava, sitting beside me
doing her write-ups on her new baby girl calves... “Bella 4Z has shiny black hair that is curly. She also has long eye lashes. She
looks best when she lays on the straw!” Selling features, maybe not, but similar passion and love of cattle, yes!
We are excited to continue to work alongside Brian and Spring Creek Simmentals in the cattle business and as part of our
combined bull sale. I have learned a lot from Brian about business, and the cattle business, and will continue to do so moving
forward. There is no secret as you look through our BlackSand Bull offering that the Spring Creek pedigrees run deep and are
the foundation of our cow herd and sire selections. If there was a simple answer to this, it would be that the cattle have
worked extremely well. We would not be able to offer the volume of bulls that we do and retain the number of females that
we do on our smaller cow base if it were not for the consistency in the Spring Creek bloodlines. We know their program well
and it has benefited our program to get to where we are in a short timeframe.
We are extremely happy with the depth of bulls we will bring March 8 th with many full and half brothers available on offer as
well as close relations on the bottom sides of the pedigrees. The “Best Beef” offering out of our top replacement Simmental
heifers look very good out of a new Angus bull called “Focus In”.
Our belief at BlackSand, to make this a seedstock business, is not just to create a product and try to sell it, but to work and
partner with our customers to figure out their programs and needs to move their businesses into a more profitable position.
We are prepared to make moves that will make a difference for our customers.
I would like to make special note to those who allow BlackSand Cattle Co. to be successful. Without my parents, Ralph and
Wendy Davidson, who manage the day to day operation, as well as neighbors and relatives who help out when needed, the
business would not function as it does. My passion for the cattle business is only possible with the hands that help carry the
heavy load of a farming operation. Thank You!
Please call at any time (Craig – 204-761-5991) (Ralph/Wendy – 204-722-2348) and we would be happy to see you before sale
day to allow you to evaluate the cattle. Needing additional info, visit our website at www.blacksandcattle.com.
Enjoy today, Pursue tomorrow!
Craig Davidson
Homo Polled, Homo Black – Our youngest bull on offer
type to him that will produce very useful cattle. 55N has
great operations. A maternal brother sold to DugDale Agco
much capacity as any bull we will offer this spring. We
bought his sire originally to breed to heifers. The females
from MBJ 104S have been simply outstanding. We believe
39Y has tremendous breeding potential (check out his
not get a full pass on his semen test before breeding season. The
volume in this bull in unbelievable and is built similar to his maternal
big group of cows, and receive highly marketable calves. We used 16X
strengths set him apart. He sires more body depth, muscle and fleshing
ability than most calving ease sires. Truly an outstanding sire.
