<strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> Historical Society<br />

The Society was established in 1965 with Mrs. Harry Walker’s extensive personal collection <strong>of</strong> photographs,<br />

scrapbooks and notebooks as the foundation <strong>of</strong> the ever-growing collection. The Society’s purpose is to<br />

preserve the past and record the continuing history <strong>of</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> to share with future generations.<br />

Local historical sites are recognized with bronze plaques and the Society <strong>of</strong>fers two dinner meetings each<br />

year, a local “Antiques from Your Home” show and an Ice Cream Social. The <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> Historical Society<br />

also takes part in the annual Western Days celebration with displays and <strong>of</strong>fers an extensive line <strong>of</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong><br />

souvenirs for sale. The souvenirs are also available at the Society’s gift shop located on the second floor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Walker House.<br />

Displays are maintained in the foyer <strong>of</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> City Hall and at the Society’s museum located on the<br />

second floor <strong>of</strong> the historic Walker House. The museum is opened the first and third Saturday <strong>of</strong> each month<br />

from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.<br />

Docent led tours <strong>of</strong> the historic Walker House are available the second Saturday <strong>of</strong> each month. Tours will<br />

meet on the front veranda <strong>of</strong> the Walker House and groups <strong>of</strong> approximately 15 people will be guided through<br />

the house at 10 minute intervals starting at 10:00 am – with the last tour group leaving the veranda at 10:50<br />

am. There is no charge for the tour. Space is limited. If you would like further information or reservations,<br />

A walking tour <strong>of</strong> the historic part <strong>of</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> is conducted on the third Saturday in February, May,<br />

August and November. People interested in the tours should meet on the veranda <strong>of</strong> the historic Walker<br />

House at 9:00 am. The cost is $5 per person and everyone attending will receive a walking tour booklet. If it<br />

is raining at 8:00 am, the tour will be cancelled.<br />

Membership in the society is open to everyone interested in preserving or learning about the local history.<br />

Pacific Railroad Museum<br />

Housed in the former AT&SF train depot in old town <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong>, the Pacific<br />

Railroad Society operates the Pacific Railroad Museum. The depot has been<br />

restored by the Society to represent a working railroad station with displays<br />

<strong>of</strong> authentic artifacts and exhibits <strong>of</strong> railroading. The museum also houses an<br />

extensive research library containing books, documents, maps, and photographs<br />

dating back to the 1930’s.<br />

Admission to the Museum is free. The Museum is open Saturdays from<br />

10 AM to 4 PM and Wednesdays from 1 PM to 5 PM. The <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> Pacific<br />

Railroad Museum, staffed by volunteers, is located at 210 West Bonita Avenue<br />

between Cataract and Monte Vista Avenues next to the railroad tracks.<br />
