Government Structure<br />

<strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> is a city council / city manager form <strong>of</strong><br />

government. The city council consists <strong>of</strong> four elected<br />

council members and a publicly elected mayor. The city<br />

manager oversees a staff <strong>of</strong> four internal departments:<br />

Planning, Public Works, Parks & Recreation and<br />

Administration. Police support is provided through<br />

a contract with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s<br />

Department and the Los Angeles County Fire<br />

Department provides fire protection.<br />

Transportation<br />

Arrive in <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> by plane, train or automobile. We’re easily accessible from the 10, 210 and 57<br />

freeways. Amtrak <strong>of</strong>fers service through its Pomona station and Metrolink provides commuter service<br />

from stations in Pomona and Covina. Light rail commuter service is planned to stop in <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong><br />

sometime after 2010. Foothill Transit provides local and regional bus and commuter service from many<br />

street bus stops and two commuter parking lots. Commercial air, both passenger and freight, are available<br />

from nearby Ontario International Airport and local private air access is available from Brackett Field in<br />

nearby La Verne.<br />

Shopping in <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong><br />

Most <strong>of</strong> your shopping needs can be satisfied at one <strong>of</strong> our local<br />

shopping areas and, when you need a rest, you can enjoy a nice meal<br />

at one <strong>of</strong> over fifty eating establishments.<br />

The Historic Downtown on Bonita Avenue features family owned<br />

restaurants, antique stores, numerous service providers, one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

region’s premier model railroad suppliers and our historic hardware<br />

store. The Target shopping center features Target, many national<br />

clothing stores, a pet supply store, an <strong>of</strong>fice supply store, small<br />

specialty stores and several local restaurants.<br />

<strong>San</strong> <strong>Dimas</strong> Station on Arrow Highway has several local merchants,<br />

local and national restaurants and Southern California’s premier<br />

western night spot, Montana’s. Lowe’s Home Improvement Store is<br />

at Bonita Avenue and Arrow Highway along with a furniture store,<br />

two restaurants and lots <strong>of</strong> fast food.<br />

The Costco shopping center, opened in early 2008. In the future, it<br />

will feature many retail stores and restaurants, as well as Costco.<br />

There are four shopping plazas centered around grocery stores. Each has local retail and service<br />

businesses to complement their neighborhood: Albertsons center is on Bonita Avenue; Ralphs center on<br />

Arrow Highway; Stater Brothers center on Arrow Highway and Vons Center in Via Verde.
