Alongside the A1 motorway, other road <strong><strong>in</strong>vest</strong>ments pursued outside the metropolis<br />
<strong>and</strong> region are also of fundamental importance. The projects <strong>in</strong>clude e.g. the staged<br />
<strong><strong>in</strong>vest</strong>ment <strong>in</strong> upgrad<strong>in</strong>g national road No. 7 to the st<strong>and</strong>ard of the express road S-7.<br />
Modernisation of national road No. 22 is <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> the plans. The road, once redeveloped,<br />
will be upgraded to the express road st<strong>and</strong>ard becom<strong>in</strong>g a section of the thoroughfare<br />
l<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g the cities on the southern Baltic coast, from Hamburg to Tall<strong>in</strong> (Via<br />
Hanseatica <strong>and</strong> Via Baltica). A 50 km long section of the route (S-22), between Elbląg<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Grzechotki border cross<strong>in</strong>g, was opened to the traffic <strong>in</strong> 2008. The same project<br />
further <strong>in</strong>cludes staged modernisation of national road No. 6 <strong>in</strong> the voivodships<br />
of Pomerania <strong>and</strong> Western Pomerania.<br />

The residents <strong>and</strong> entrepreneurs of the Metropolitan Area can already use an almost 100 km long section of<br />
the A1 motorway.<br />
