The local authorities in the Gdańsk Metropolitan Area, particularly of its central part, i.e. the cities of Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot, rank among the richest local governments in Poland. They lead the list of large regional cities in terms of the generated level of own income per capita. The size of the income is the direct function of good financial standing of the businesses having their registered seats in the cities, and the high earnings of their inhabitants.
