Our courses aim toprepare practitioners to various levels of clinical expertise andacademic ability to meet their specific needs for professionaldevelopment. Courses may be undertaken at undergraduateor postgraduate level or simply for continuing professionaldevelopment without academic assessment.The <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> in <strong>Burns</strong> & <strong>Plastic</strong><strong>Surgery</strong> Care for Adults and PaediatricsThe <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> has a strong clinical focus that issupported through involvement and collaborative work withpractitioners. These specialties are concerned with the initialtreatment and subsequent repair and reconstruction of lost,injured or deformed/diseased parts of the body. Physicaland psycho-social rehabilitation post-injury is a large remitof professionals working in a burns and plastic surgery unit.This programme aims to enable you to meet the challengepresented in caring for patients in these specialities bydeveloping an enhanced level of knowledge and clinicaldecision making through research-based learning andindependent study.The certificate is awarded on the successful completion of 60credits at graduate level (level 3, SCQF level 9) in the threecourses detailed, right. The programme must be completedwithin three years of the date of first registration. Individualcourses may be taken for credited continuing professionaldevelopment.The <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> comprises three coursesoffered at undergraduate level. They are alloffered as three consecutive days, each with 20credits at graduate level.• Principles of reconstructive plasticsurgery & burn injury care• <strong>Plastic</strong> and reconstructive surgery:adults & paediatrics• Burn injury: adults & paediatrics.The courses are suitable forprofessionals from across the UK andoverseas.Principles of reconstructive plasticsurgery and burn injury careThis course aims to increase your knowledge andunderstanding of patient care in relation to burn injury andreconstructive plastic surgery. You will apply this knowledgeand understanding to clinical practice in the acute andrehabilitation settings.<strong>Plastic</strong> and reconstructive surgery: adults & paediatricsThis course will increase your knowledge of the current techniques,developments and research in the area of plastic reconstructive surgeryand will enable you to provide evidence-based care.Burn injury: adults & paediatricsThis course aims to develop knowledge and skills in care by exploring current techniques, developments and research in thearea of burn injury management and will enable you to provide evidence-based care.Entry requirementsApplicants must hold a formal professional qualification and have current membership of a health care professional body,eg NMC, GMC, HPC. You must be currently involved in patient care and have the ability to gain experience in caring forpatients with burn injury or requiring plastic surgery. Applications are welcome from people with alternative qualificationsthan a degree. Applicants will normally be interviewed.
