SustainabilityCan contribute to the U.S. Green BuildingCouncil’s LEED Credit Qualification to assistin obtaining LEED certification. Visitwww.lafargenorthamerica.com for moredetails on specific credit contribution anddocumentation.Product and Safety PrecautionsWARNING: This product contains silica.Prolonged and repeated exposure maycause lung disease.KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN:Not for internal consumption.• Maintain minimum 45° F (7º C) workingtemperature (air, material, water)• Allow compound to harden adequatelybetween coats• Keep container closed between uses• Avoid prolonged contact with skin assome constituents can be irritants.• Wear safety glasses at all times toprotect eyes. If eye contact occurs, flushthoroughly with water 10 – 15 minutes• Wear a NIOSH-approved respiratorwhen sanding or engaging in other dustproducingactivity due to potential fordust to exceed exposure limits. Exhaustventilation may be required during dustproducingactivities in areas with poorventilation.• Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) areavailable for all Lafarge products uponrequest.Mixing DirectionsTo mix entire 18-lb. bag: Place 1.25 – 1.5U.S. gallons (4.6 – 6.0 L) clean, drinkablewater in plastic bucket; add compoundto water and mix thoroughly for 30 – 60seconds. Scrape sides of pail frequently toensure even mixing and allow to stand 2 – 3minutes. Mixing may be done by hand orwith power drill mixer as long as compoundis not over mixed. If necessary, mix another30 seconds to achieve desired consistency[water may be added in 4-ounce (100 ml)increments].Note:• Mix only the amount that can be appliedwithin “working” time (that is, before earliestpossible setting time)• Do not mix with any other product or material• Dirty water, over mixing or extreme heat canaccelerate set time• Over dilution can reduce bond strength andwill NOT delay hardening• Mixing container and tools must bethoroughly cleaned between uses. Set timewill be accelerated should new batches ofmaterial come in contact with residue ofprevious batches.Pre-fillingPre-fill imperfections, damaged areas, andlarge recesses where boards meet. Removeexcess material. Allow to harden completely.Finishing Joints and CornersStep One: Apply thin layer of compound totapered joint edge. Press joint tape firmly intocompound (for inside corners, center creasetape) and tightly embed with finishing knife.Remove excess material. Apply thin coat overtape, nail/screw dimples, and cornerbeads/trim. For cornerbeads, extend first coat atleast 5 in. (125 mm) onto panel. Let harden.Step Two: Apply second coat over fasteners, joints, and trim, feathering edges approx.2.5 in. (65 mm) beyond taping coat. Forinside corners, allow one side to dry beforesecond-coating the opposite side. Let hardencompletely.CleanupRapid Joint washes off easily with warmwater. Tools should be dried thoroughly toprevent rusting.SandingLight sanding (150 grit sandpaper or220 grit mesh cloth or finer) may be donewhen application is completely dry(approx. 24 hours). Wet sanding isrecommended to avoid dust.Painting and WallpaperingPainting should not proceed until jointcompound is thoroughly dry (See GA-236).For best results, a good quality gypsumboard primer should be applied,in accordance with manufacturer’sinstructions, before painting orwallpapering.Lafarge North America Inc.Reston, Virginia 20191USA • (800) 237-5505Lafarge Canada Inc.Montreal, Quebec H3B 1L7Canada • (866) 649-7786www.lafargenorthamerica.com06/10
