A Brief History of Rogerthorpe. The earliest known<br />
owner of the Rogerthorpe Estate was a Samuel<br />
Saltonstal who in 1610 started to build the<br />
house, which later was to become known as<br />
Rogerthorpe Manor. By the late 1700’s a Colonel<br />
Edward Rawstorne resided at Rogerthorpe Manor.<br />
The successor to Rogerthorpe Manor after the death of<br />
Joshua Mason (jnr) in 1879 was William Brackenridge.<br />
Later in 1891, Ramsden bought Rogerthorpe Manor<br />
from his Landlord, Oxley of Ripon. The purchase<br />

A BRIEF OF ROgERThORPE<br />
price was £12,000 for the house & 214 acres of<br />
land. Rogerthorpe Manor, having been left by Lt Col<br />
Ramsden to his nephew, was sold at public auction on<br />
1st October 1928 In 1943 Rogerthorpe Manor &<br />
3.5 acres of l & was bought by Frank Bramley Jackson,<br />
a director of Jackson’s Glassworks at Knottingley.<br />
Rogerthorpe Manor changed hands again in 1955,<br />
being bought by Stanley Tinsdale.<br />
In 1972 Kenneth Buchanan took the Manor & stayed<br />
for eleven years, & opened the country club to the<br />

1989. The Jacobean Pub was built in 1997<br />
& serves over 1,000 customers every week. In 2004<br />
Rogerthorpe Manor was bought by the Metcalfe family<br />
who continue to improve the Manor into one of the<br />
premier venues in the area. 2010 saw the 400th year<br />
anniversary of the Manor & the newly refurbished<br />
1610 Steakhouse & Lounge was completed.<br />
