Imagine our surprise to receive aphone call shortly before Christmas telling us we hadbeen selected….!Further to compiling an information pack, we wereinformed earlier in January that we had reached the nextstage, and would be visited by the TV company for half aday.Although they had a small camera with them this wasnot part of the TV programme. They were keen to see allthe talent in the school and watched our choir, twosoloists, Hannah Shaw and Christian Rose, some Dramaand one of our Dance groups made up of Year 11students. Chloe Kitching proved to be a star as sheshowed her prowess of dancing, acting and singing tothe visitors.What happens next is…we wait and see!If we are selected, we will receive a visit from theProducer of the show for the day to gain more of aninsight into the school. If we get through that stage,three days of filming will occur in late February/earlyMarch.We would then be part of tenschools selected for the show,before being whittled down tothree schools who all auditionin London over Easter.Finally, the selected school willwork with the TV company’s Directors on a show oftheir choosing in the summer holidays.Keep your fingers crossed and watch this space for further updates!!By Mr Shorrock, Subject Leader for DramaHot off the press! Kings and Queens Sports ScoresWe look forward to reporting in more detail in the nextnewsletter after a number of fixtures have unfortunately,been postponed this half term.Year 9 NetballOver 20 students have been attending Netball practiceson Tuesdays and Thursdays and there is lots ofcompetition for places! The team will be playing theirfirst fixture against Sidcot School at the time of writing.Senior NetballOver 30 students have been attending school practices.Two fixtures have been played so far against SidcotSchool resulting in a win 14-10 and a loss 20 – 11.Regular fixtures continue after half term. The next matchis away to Chew Valley.Equestrian SuccessThe Jas Season has started with some very promisingperformances. Millfield hosted the first of the SouthWest Jas qualifiers and we were very keen to build onour Keysoe success at the finals.We arrived to find that Class 1 had been cancelled dueto a slippery surface, which was very disappointing. Wewere one of the very early teams to go in class 2 and thecold weather took its toll on our preparation, meaningthat two of our riders went into the arena withoutwarming up!U15 HockeyThe U.15’s are still in the County Cup and are due toplay The Blue School.By Mrs Roberts and Mrs TibbsYear 9 Junior BadmintonCongratulations to the Boys Junior Badminton team whomade it through to the County Finals of The CentreParcs National Inter Schools Competition.Team members include: James Chinnock, GregMcGowan, Dan Wood, Ed Lupton and reserves EdFarmer, Sam Denham, Ross Dickenson and Sam Bath.The final was held at Somerset College of Arts andTechnology on Friday 23 January 2009 and the boyscame 3 rd – only narrowly beaten by Castle and KingArthurs Schools.This was a fantastic achievement and a first for Kings!DanceWell done to our Sports Leaders fora very successful Year 4 DanceFestival on Wednesday 21 January2009 in our Sports Hall.The Leaders choreographedtheir own dances and then taught a group of approx 25Year 4 boys and girls their dance in an hour and a half.The group then had to perform the dance in front ofeveryone.The Leaders and the young dancers worked hard andproduced an interesting and varied program of dances.SamaraMasneyonGalaxyLauren Reason on Foxham FormulaHowever, Lauren Reason had an amazing round,beautifully ridden, demonstrating a strong partnershipwith her pony Foxham Formula. They finished 3 rdindividual on 11 penalties and qualified for the final!Samara Masney and her five-year old ‘wonder pony’Galaxy went in cold and had four jumping penalties, butended on 18 penalties, and Megan Moxey who ended upriding as an individual on Ambella Fizz also had awonderful round finishing on 19 penalties. Sally Ecclesshowed much promise on Remy Martin and RebeccaPinn retired Cardigan Royal after a couple of mishapson the course.All in all it was a pleasing performance but just short ofbeing at our best!
