THE KINGS OF WESSEX SCHOOL, CHEDDARGCE EXAMINATION RESULTS – JUNE 2008A-Level ResultsStudents at The <strong>Kings</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Wessex</strong> School once again achieved an excellent set <strong>of</strong> A-level resultswith an overall pass rate <strong>of</strong> 98%. The national average for the highest grades was once againexceeded with 29% <strong>of</strong> A-level entries achieving grade A compared with 25% nationally. Thiscohort <strong>of</strong> students is also to be congratulated for setting another new record at <strong>Kings</strong> for thehighest average point score per entry <strong>of</strong> 92 UCAS points. Most pleasingly 77% <strong>of</strong> gradesachieved were C or better, another highly commendable achievement. Clearly this cohort <strong>of</strong>students has performed excellently. Their magnificent achievements should be widely celebrated.Many individual students performed exceptionally well and are to be particularly congratulated.Four students achieved the amazing feat <strong>of</strong> 4 grade A’s in their subjects. They are: Samuel Bird(Mark) who will read Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College, London; Elizabeth Freeman(Rowberrow) who is studying Natural Sciences at Emmanuel College, Cambridge; JonathanSmith (Cheddar) embarking upon Biochemistry at Manchester University and NaomiTaschimowitz (Loxton) who will be going to Trinity College, Cambridge to study Economics.Another remarkable achievement was realised by 10 students who gained three grade A’s intheir subjects. They are: Bethan Tucker (Wedmore) who is planning to study Medicine atUniversity College London (having achieved 3 A’s and a B); Harry Briffitt (Brent Knoll) embarkingupon a Chemistry degree at Manchester University; Elen Davies (Cheddar) studying CulturalCriticism at Cardiff University; Oliver Halmkin (Brent Knoll) following a course in Chemistry atBath University; Lily Mason (Axbridge) pursuing Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University;Fraser McQueen (Axbridge) who will be studying Mining Engineering at Exeter University;Bethan Meadowcr<strong>of</strong>t (Cheddar) reading Engineering at Oxford University; Bethany Morgan(Weare) studying Physics with Astrophysics at Leeds University; Jennifer Scott (Cheddar)embarking upon Biomedical Sciences at Southampton University and Daniel Ward (East Brent)who will read Mathematics at Durham University.To summarise, this year group are to be highly commended upon their wonderful achievements.These are reflected by the fact that in total 104 A level grade A’s were awarded. They have donethemselves, their parents, their villages and the school much credit. We wish them all the verybest for a successful future.<strong>Advanced</strong> Subsidiary (AS) ResultsResults were also very promising for Year 12 students who attained an overall pass rate <strong>of</strong> 88%.An impressive 112 ‘A’ grades were achieved by students representing 19% <strong>of</strong> the total number <strong>of</strong>awards made. These achievements <strong>of</strong> Year 12 are hopefully a pre-cursor to success in nextsummer’s A-level exams.Two students realised the outstanding achievement <strong>of</strong> 5 straight ‘A’ grades in their subjects. Theyare Thomas Day (Axbridge) and Ruth Laing (Wells). Eleven others excelled by achieving at least4 A grades in their subjects. They are: Helen Taylor (Mark); Nicola Sentance (Cheddar) andSteven Lukins (Cheddar) who all achieved 4 A’s and a B; Freya Gruffydd-Jones (Lympsham);Timothy Dixon (Mark); Maxwell Ash (Stone Allerton); Jake Hodgetts (Blackford); Daniel Layton(Shipham); Hannah Lucas (Axbridge); Elizabeth Rabbitts (Wedmore) and Jonathan Talbot fromBiddisham. Three other students are to be heartily congratulated for the excellent achievement<strong>of</strong> 5 AS passes at either A or B grade. They are Iain Haggerty from Lympsham (3 A’s and 2 B’s);
