Avanti, Da Vinci! - Center for Puppetry Arts

Anne Frank: Within & Without by Associate Producer Bobby Box had its world premiere at
the Center in January 2006. Presented in cooperation with the Georgia Commission on the
Holocaust and the Anne Frank in the World: 1929-1945 exhibit, under the auspices of the Anne
Frank Center USA. Photos and text courtesy of the Anne Frank Center, USA-New York;
the Anne Frank House - Amsterdam; and the Anne Frank - Fonds, Basel. The show garnered
critical acclaim from publications around the world. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution cited it
as “poignant, personal and historical” and praised Box for his use of the elegant language of
puppetry to illustrate one of the best-known stories of the Holocaust. The New York Times,
Tel Aviv’s Haaretz, CNN and ABC were among some of the other international news outlets
to cover Box’s new perspective of the war-time memoir.
In April 2006, the Center was awarded a prestigious museum planning grant from
the National Endowment for the Humanities. We are excited to begin researching the
numerous possibilities for redesigning or rebuilding our permanent museum space. This
generous grant is enabling the Center to plan the country’s premier puppetry museum.
We gratefully acknowledge the individuals, corporations, foundations and government
organizations who supported us this season. This support allows us to maintain an active
Atlanta treasure – one that the whole community can learn from and enjoy.
