Dear Friends and Supporters,
The 2005-06 season proved to be very busy! We presented 751 performances of nine family
productions and 50 performances of eight New Directions Series (teen & adult) productions.
Education instructors taught over 650 workshops, and museum staff conducted over 250
tours.
The theme for the 2005 String Fling Gala was “Joie de Vivre!” and what better way to celebrate
life than with a party of puppets? Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) hosted the
annual fundraiser on September 17, 2005. More than 350 people attended and over $185,000
was raised, making it the largest and most financially successful String Fling yet!
Also in September, the Center’s permanent museum, PUPPETS: The Power of Wonder was
recognized by MSN.com as one of the top ten children’s museums in the country.
In November, Austria’s Salzburg Marionette Theatre returned to the Center following
sold-out performances in 2001 and 2004. This year, they performed three masterpieces:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hansel and Gretel and Don Giovanni. The theatre continued to awe
audiences with its exquisite string puppets, opulent scenery, wondrous arias and old-world
charm.
