8 The Little Rabbit and Other South American Tales by Akbar Imhotep, Atlanta, GA August 23 - September 18, 2005 Four South American folk tales came to life as Imhotep introduced audiences to the colorful characters of “The Little Hare,” “The Little Ant,” “The Golden Gourd” and “The Magic Rattle.” Downstairs Theater. Audiences experienced a day in the life of more than 30 exotic plants and animals in this vital ecosystem. Mainstage Theater. Create-A-Puppet Workshop: Climbing Sloth Rod and String Puppet Museum Tour: Find a monkey in one of the Discovery Boxes The Tortoise & the Hare & More adapted by Lorna Howley and Clint Thornton February 16 - May 21, 2006 Does slow and steady really win the race? Audiences found out in this fanciful production of “fable-ous” tales told over 2,000 years ago by a Greek slave named Aesop. Downstairs Theater (Feb. 16 - April 18). Create-A-Puppet Workshop: Silly Crow Rod and String Puppet Museum Tour: Find Bil Baird’s Rabbit puppet Jack & the Beanstalk adapted by Lee Bryan, “That Puppet Guy,” Atlanta, GA May 24 - June 18, 2006 This original adaptation was based on the timeless tale of a lazy boy named Jack who outwits the Giant, gets the gold and saves the farm. 2005-06 New Directions Series Avanti, Da Vinci! The Secret Adventures of Leonardo da Vinci by Jason Hines & Jon Ludwig June 22 - July 3, 2005 The hilarious spectacle of cloak and dagger puppet action that thrilled audiences in the summer of 2004 came back by popular demand! A hilarious smash hit about Leonardo da Vinci, mild-mannered artist by day, “winged avenger” by night. Downstairs Theater. Ages 18 and up. Ancient Arts, Modern Masters* by Guangxi Puppet Art Troupe of Guangxi, China August 3 - 7, 2005 Whether performing a teasing tête á tête, an innocent fan dance for the family or a rhythmic, Spanish rumba, the graceful puppeteers of Guangxi are sure to delight with the unique beauty they’ve been passing along for centuries. Downstairs Theater. Ages 5 and up. *Due to lack of visa approval for 6 of the 8 puppeteers, the Center was forced to cancel this performance. After a year of preparation, following normal procedures for visa application and receiving initial approval for the petition from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Center received notice that the U.S. Embassy in Guangzhou, China, denied the visas for all but 2 of the performers. In these times of heightened security, it has become problematic to bring artistic groups from overseas, and this time the problems proved insurmountable, forcing our cancellation of the show. Something Wicked... by Clint Thornton October 12 - 29, 2005 Full of macabre music and movement, this eclectic mix also incorporated film, spoken word, black comedy, performance art...and some puppets. Anne Frank: Within and Without by Bobby Box of the Center January 19 - 29, 2006 Presented in Cooperation with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Anne Frank in the World: 1929- 1945 exhibit, under the auspices of the Anne Frank Center USA. The remarkable story of Anne Frank and the hopes, dreams and inner strength that carried her from one day to the next were given new life in this Center for Puppetry Arts world premiere.
