THE VOICEI won’t lie to you here: the voice is important. In other words, if youdon’t have the right voice for a broadcaster, you start with a disadvantagewhich means you will have to work twice as hard as someonewho was born with one. There are things you can do to improve several aspects of yourvoice, but even if you do have the voice for broadcasting, it doesn’tmean you will automatically be successful - it just makes it a littleeasier to start with. You also have to remember that gaming communitiesare the most diverse and critical people in the world. Assuch, even if you do have the voice, some will still not enjoy it andyou just have to learn to live with that - you can’t possibly pleaseeveryone all the time.If you’re not sure if you have the voice, check with someone establishedin commentary and they will be able to tell you. That said, some do have success with what I would call ‘non-broadcasting’voices, though as mentioned previously, they have to work terrificallyhard initially just to get into the business.WHAT CAN I DO TO IMPROVE MY VOICE?Professional lessons (I am not kidding here) called elocution lessonsare the extreme end if you really want to broadcast professionally, but there are things you can do to improve things without spendingmoney such as working on your inflection, projection, vocabularyand pacing, all of which are very important to an esports broadcaster.38
