80objective <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program was to encourage judicial <strong>of</strong>ficers toadopt international human rights principles when writingjudgments <strong>and</strong> making court decisions, especially in caseswhere women’s rights have been violated. This was throughtrainings. The association later developed a training manual<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> judicial <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>and</strong> i was instrumental in itsdevelopment. I was quite resource full in <strong>the</strong> process <strong>and</strong> irelied a lot on my exposure/training on <strong>the</strong> internationalhuman rights instruments’ while at <strong>the</strong> centre.I later joined <strong>the</strong> Federation <strong>of</strong> women lawyers <strong>and</strong> wascharged with treaty monitoring <strong>and</strong> research, where myduties included monitoring <strong>and</strong> reporting on all <strong>the</strong> treatiesthat Kenya has ratified. In 2011 <strong>the</strong> organization presented aShadow report to <strong>the</strong> CEDAW committee which i had helpedprepare in collaboration with 11 women’s rightsorganizations in Kenya. The Shadow report was instrumental in <strong>the</strong> Review since<strong>the</strong> Committee relied partly on it when developing some <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> recommendations to <strong>the</strong> Government. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>recommendations have been so far been implemented by <strong>the</strong>Government e.g. <strong>the</strong> enactment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> FGM Act just tomention a few.For <strong>the</strong> past nine months <strong>of</strong> this year I worked at EqualityNOW as a coordinator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Solidarity <strong>for</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n Women'sRights (SOAWR).A campaign <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> ratification,domestication <strong>and</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Protocol to <strong>the</strong><strong>Africa</strong>n Charter on Human <strong>and</strong> People’s Rights on <strong>the</strong> Rights<strong>of</strong> Women, where i coordinated campaign activities <strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>tymembers organizations drawn <strong>for</strong>m twenty two <strong>Africa</strong>ncountries.
