MATTHEW BERRYNORTH HUNTERDONA jack <strong>of</strong> all trades on <strong>the</strong> field, Matt Berry is even more accomplished <strong>of</strong>f it.During his career, Berry was a star at a number <strong>of</strong> different positions for NorthHunterdon – linebacker, fullback, running back, kicker. He was truly someone allover <strong>the</strong> field and someone head coach John Mattes III will have a great deal <strong>of</strong>difficulty replacing.“Matt handled <strong>the</strong> responsibility <strong>of</strong> being captain by not only becoming more vocalin his relationships with <strong>the</strong> team, but also by becoming even more visible in hisconsistently outstanding play,” Mattes said. “He is a leader through his consistentpositive attitude and his outstanding work ethic.”Berry has immersed himself in <strong>the</strong> challenging curriculum at North Hunterdon andas a result has received numerous honors. Among <strong>the</strong>se include AP Scholar withDistinction, <strong>the</strong> Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Outstanding Leader <strong>of</strong> Character,nominee for National Association <strong>of</strong> Secondary School Principals Leadership Award, and member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National HonorSociety and Academic Achievement Society.Matt has also served as a coach for Clinton Township youth flag football and <strong>the</strong> Special Olympics. He is a science andmath tutor, member and <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Interact and Able Club, participant in <strong>the</strong> Warren Hunterdon Academic Meet, a MathLeague Team member and team organizer on Moody’s Mega Math Challenge.“Matt is cooperative, well-mannered, and eager to learn,” principal Michael Hughes said. “He is an exceptional young manwho has demonstrated his commitment to our school and community in so many ways.”JUSTIN BESLITYPRINCETONA starter on both <strong>of</strong>fensive and defensive line, Justin Beslity was a great choice forcaptain in head coach Joe Gargione’s first season. He will be missed on <strong>the</strong> PrincetonHigh campus.“Even though we had a tough season,” Gargione said, “Justin was <strong>the</strong> kind <strong>of</strong> captainall coaches would love to have on <strong>the</strong>ir team. Not only was he committed on <strong>the</strong> field,but he was also one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hardest workers in <strong>the</strong> weight room. He was extremelycoachable and never made excuses for a mistake. Justin was always willing to helphis teammates and he did it was a positive attitude.“From <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> July to <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> November,” Gargione continued, “Justinnever missed a practice. Whe<strong>the</strong>r he was sick or hurt, he knew how much it meantto be present at practice for <strong>the</strong> sake <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> team.”The Iron Tiger 2010 Award winner, Beslity excels in <strong>the</strong> classroom and tutored Mathand English to students at <strong>the</strong> Trenton Middle School. He also took part in a group that cleaned and planted in a local park.The co-founder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Princeton Bocce Ball club, Beslity is active in <strong>the</strong> classroom and helping his fellow students.“The way he treated his teammates was exactly how he treated his classmates, with respect,” Gargione said. “<strong>On</strong>ce again,he would always be willing to help his peers if <strong>the</strong>y were absolutely stuck on <strong>the</strong>ir work.”82011DVCProgram.indd 83/9/11 12:02 PM
