SCHUMACKERest de même pour la mention de RAVAUD (1877 : 56) qui l'avait signalé à laTancanière dans l'Isère, mention reprise ultérieurement, sans vérification, parplusieurs flores françaises.- La mention de DEMARET & CASTAGNE (1964 : 282) « depuis la péninsule Ibériquejusqu'en Islande» n'est pas fondée, puisqu'il n'existe - à notre connaissance- aucune récolte d'Espagne ou du Portugal et que celle mentionnée d'Islandepar HESSELBO (1918) résulte d'une confusion avec Desmatodon {Pottia}heimii (Hedw.) Mitt. comme l'ont signalé SCHUMACKER & DE ZUTTERE (1981)après révision du matériel original par FRAHM (Duisburg, R.F.A.).- Les mentions anciennes relatives à Leptodontium subalpinum (De Not.) Lindb. ouà L. subalpinum Cardo dans les Alpes et dans les Pyrénées: ou encore à L. theriotii(Card.) Broth. dans les Pyrénées sont erronées puisqu'il a été démontréque l'on avait décrit sous ces noms des formes rabougries de D. pel/ucidum,de D. flavescens ou de Zygodon cf. gracilis (L1MPRICHT 1890 : 567 ; CASARESGIL 1932 : 330-332). La mention de MÜLLER (1853) au Portugal n'est soutenuepar aucun échantillon.- ZANDER (1972 : 235) cite une récolte d'Autriche (Styrie), sans date, ni nomde récolteur conservée à NY ; cette mention, jamais confirmée par d'autres spécimens,doit être considérée avec circonspection; il s'agit peut-être d'une formedépourvue de propagules de L. styriacum, abondant dans la région.- ZANDER (1972 : 235) et FRAHM (1973 : 414) citent une récolte, sans date,ni récolteur, provenant de « Jura franconia » (erronément localisé en Bavièrepar ZANDER) ; plusieurs spécimens provenant de cette localité existent dansdivers herbiers, notamment à NY et à Kiel (fide FRAHM). Bien qu'assez vaguementlocalisé, un point doit être ajouté à la carte d'Europe et représente la limitesud-orientale actuellement connue avec certitude de cette espèce.- Toutes les mentions relatives à L. flexifolium en Suisse sont erronées. Celle deSCHIMPER (1860) à la Grimsel (Suisse) était basée sur une récolte de BLENDet MÜHLENBECK dont CULMANN (in AMMAN 1912 : 93) à montré qu'il s'agissaitde Dichodontium pel/ucidum. Les autres mentions (Campeccio dans le Tessinet Valais) déjà mises en doute par AMMAN (1912), HERZOG (1931-1933)et FRAHM (1973) doivent être considérées comme erronées, faute d'échantillonsd'herbier.- Les mentions de PAPP (1967) pour la Roumanie n'ont toujours pas reçu de confirmationbasée sur un échantillon d'herbier.- La mention de SMITH (1978) pour les îles Canaries provient d'une erreur de transcriptiond'une note bibliographique manuscrite concernant le Cameroun (A.J.E.SMITH, comm. pers., 1983).La carte 1 présente la répartition de L. flexifolium en Europe selon la grille de FloraEuropaea adoptée par le « Groupe de travail pour la cartographie des bryophytesen Europe » (SCHUMACKER 1981). Elle met bien en évidence l'isolement très netde la station ancienne découverte par LACHENAUD en 1902 à Bersac-sur-Rivalierdans la Haute-Vienne (JELENC 1973) et surtout des stations des Hautes-Pyrénées.En France, L. flexifolium a toujours été une espèce relativement rare et sembleaujourd'hui en voie d'extrême raréfaction: à l'exception d'une localité normandetrès récemment découverte par A. LECOINTE et des localités pyrénéennes énuméréesci-dessous, cette mousse n'a plus été observée depuis un demi-siècle au moins,même dans des régions où elle était jadis assez fréquente, comme la Normandie oula Bretagne.La liste exhaustive et la localisation des stations hautes-pyrénéennes de L. flexi-
