LEPTODONTIUM FLEXIFOLIUM ET L. GEMMASCENS 87La forme des feuilles est normalement assez différente: largement spatulées etayant leur plus grande largeur dans le tiers supérieur chez L. flexifolium, à peine ounon spatulée, ayant leur plus grande largeur dans la moitié ou le tiers inférieur etprogressivement rétrécies vers le sommet, chez L. gemmascens.Le bord du limbe paraît plus fortement et plus irrégulièrement denté chez L. gemmascensque chez L. flexifolium.On notera encore que les cellules foliaires marginales sont presqu'aussi fortementpapilleuses que les cellules du limbe chez L. flexifolium, alors qu'elles sont quasimentdépourvues de papilles chez L. gemmascens, ce qui, en microscopie optique,donne l'impression d'une bande marginale plus claire (cf. SMITH, 1978 : fig. 143,5, p. 301).La forme et la taille des papilles des cellules laminales dorsales ou ventrales semblentidentiques chez les deux taxons (fig. 2 : 1-4l.Des mesures effectuées sur une douzaine de récoltes des deux taxons semblentindiquer que la dimension des cellules foliaires, mesurées à 250 microns sous l'apexdes feuilles bien développées, est assez nettement plus faible (10-20 %) chez L. flexifoliumque chez L. gemmascens. Mais le nombre de populations connues de ce dernierest trop faible pour pouvoir tirer des conclusions sûres.Les deux taxons vivent parfois en mélange intime, mais nous n'avons jamais puisoler de plantes portant à la fois des feuilles du type L. flexifolium et du type L.gemmascens sur un même rameau ou sur des rameaux distincts.En conséquence, nous adopterons ici le statut spécifique pour ces deux taxonset la nomenclature de CORLEY & al. (1982) pour les dénommer.3. Distribution3.1. L. flexifoliumCette espèce est largement répandue dans le monde (ZANDER1972 : 234-235) : Amérique du Nord (S des U.S.A.), Amérique centrale (Mexique,Guatémala, Costa Rica), Amérique du Sud (Vénézuela, Colombie, Equateur, Pérou),Afrique (Cameroun, Zaïre, Kenya), Asie (Chine, Formose, Japon, Sumatra, Java, Lombok,Nouvelle-Guinée) et Europe occidentale.Pour l'Europe, FRAHM (1973). puis SCHUMACKER & DE ZUTTERE (1981) ontfait le point sur la répartition de cette espèce : Iles Britanniques, Danemark, PaysBas, République fédérale et démocratique allemandes (jusque dans le Harz et en Thuringe),Belgique, France (16 localités en Bretagne, 8 en Normandie, et 5,isolées, dansles Ardennes, le Nord, le Pas-de-Calais, la Somme et la Haute-Vienne, auxquellesil faut ajouter maintenant 4 localités des Hautes-Pyrénées... et 1 localité de HauteGaronne).Remarque: en décembre 1983, en examinant des matériaux des collections deGenève (G), nous avons eu la surprise de découvrir une récolte de L. flexifolium provenantdu Mont-Né (UTM/BH94), près de Luchon (Haute-Garonne), leg. FOURCADE?, 1943 ; cette récolte serait la première connue du massif Pyrénéen, maisà notre connaissance, cette découverte n'a jamais été publiée.Quelques précisions peuvent être apportées aux données publiées par les auteursprécités.- L. flexifolium a été signalé en Sarre à Merzig (SCHIMPER 1876 : 164). mais ils'agit d'une confusion avec Dichodontium pellucidum (Hedw.l Schimp. ; il en
