ORTSCHEITZone de refoulemem des eSUit de rUI• PK 307• PK 306.Fig. 4 -Dynamique deltaïque du complexe Waldrhein/III/Rhin avant les transformationsles du sens de l'écoulement, celles de l'eutrophisation, toutes commandées, en dernièreanalyse, par le balancement du plan d'eau du Rhin, confère à ce secteur hydrographiqueIll-Waldrhein une profonde originalité, comparable aux mouvements deflux et de reflux des complexes deltaïques.2. le Waldrhein et le complexe du confluent III/Rhin après les travaux deGambsheim.La mise en place dans le Rhin, à environ 20 km au nord de Strasbourg, de l'ouvragehydroélectrique de Gambsheim, a complètement bouleversé, dès 1974, à lafois l'hydrodynamique et la végétation aquatique,Ces travaux ont nécessité la construction de 2 digues latérales surélevant les bergesdu Rhin, sur environ 15,5 km, à une hauteur maximale de 9 m. Elles sont enalluvions avec noyau interne en matériaux fins prolongé par un rideau étanche foncédans les alluvions des berges. D'autre part, suite à l'endiguement, il a fallu couperles arrivées des cours d'eau et modifier leur embouchure dans le Rhin. Ainsi cellede l'III a été déplacée, du pk 306,5 au pk 311,5 soit de 5 km, en aval de l'ouvrage.(fig. 5).Lors de la mise en eau du bief de Strasbourg-Gambsheim, le plan d'eau du Rhina été relevé de 5 m au rhénomètre de Strasbourg. Or, avant la construction de l'ouvrage,une hausse d'une telle amplitude entraînait une hausse de la nappe phréatiqueet partant une augmentation de la profondeur des eaux du Waldrhein. A la suitede l'imperméabilisation du lit du fleuve due à l'endiguement, la pression des eauxrhénanes ne s'exerçant plus sur la nappe, il s'est fait une déconnection entre lesbattements du plan d'eau du Waldrhein et de celui du Rhin. Par contre, il y a eu démasquaged'une liaison étroite, passée inaperçue jusque là, entre l'III et le Waldrhein.(fig. 6).
