Macoun a été récolté pour la première fois en France, en 1979,à Saint-Josse (Pas-de-Calais). Deux autres récoltes ont été effectuées en 1982, à Saint-Sornin eten 1983 à Sainte-Gemme (Charente-Maritime), 500 km au sud des stations les plus méridionalesconnues.Cette hépatique amphi-atlantique boréale, des milieux ouverts, sableux à sabla-argileux, égaIementconnue de 12 localités en Belgique, semble en extension vers le sud-ouest de son aire, à lafaveur de la prolifération des sablières et argilières.La description et l'illustration complètes du matériel français ainsi que des indications synécologiquessont fournies; la carte de distribution en Europe est établie.Summary. - Lophozia capitata (Hook.) Macoun has been collected for the first time in France in1979 at Saint-Josse (Pas-de-Calais) ; two others collections have been made in 1982 at Saint-Sorninand in 1983 at Sainte-Gemme (Charente-Maritime), 500 km ta the south of the mast meridionallocalities known before.This amphi-atlantic boreal Iiverwort growing in open sites on sandy ta sandy-clay barren soils,also known from 12 Belgian localities, seems ta be in extension thanks to the proliferation of sand- and clay - quarries.Full description and illustration of the French material, also synecological informations, are given ;the distribution in Europe has been mapped.1. IntroductionLes naturalistes s'indignent souvent à juste titre des destructions parfois considérablesoccasionnées par la prolifération des gravières, sablières et argilières aucours de ces dernières années. Néanmoins ces aspects négatifs sont quelquefoisatténués par d'autres, positifs.Ainsi, l'un de nous (WATTEZ, 1976), soulignait-il le grand intérêt des carrièresde Monthuis, près de Saint-Josse (Pas-de-Calais), en raison du développement d'importantescolonies de Drosera rotundifolia (4), l'une des rares existant encore dansla région du Nord, en compagnie de plusieurs espèces propres aux groupements duNanocyperion.550 km plus au sud, en Charente-Maritime, aux confins de Saint-Sornin, de laGripperie-Saint-Symphorien et de Sainte-Gemme, la lande de Cadeuil qui se développedans un site très vaste, ravagé par l'exploitation des sables, puis par la mise11) R.B.
