ECE R90 ('Reg. 90')
Z-Rated Brake Pad Applications
As of September 1999, ECE R90 European legislation was
introduced.
This legislation stipulates that all brake pads
manufactured for the aftermarket and sold within the
E.U for vehicles manufactured after this date, must
comply with ECE R90 standards.
In order to meet these standards, the brake pad
material must be put through and pass a series of tests.
These tests compare the performance of the brake
pad material against specific criteria, i.e. cold and hot
friction against the OE pad material.

A brake pad material that gains Regulation 90 approval
has to be shown to provide performance within a
specified tolerance of +/-15% compared to the original
equipment product. Performance Friction Z-Rated brake
pads have been shown to exceed OE standards whilst
falling within these parameters.
All part numbers denoted with E have been fully tested
and have passed the ECE R90 approval testing.
Please be aware that ECE R90 approval is not required
for cars using non OE fitment calipers.
