A real Hot Rodder since he was 16 years old, it hasfor the most part kept him out of trouble, besides a few speedingtickets here and there. You could always find him in the garageand it has always steered him clear from drugs. Big Al alwayshad the hot rod business in mind. When he was 15 years old hestarted a speed shop in his family’s garage with his neighborRichard, who was 14, called R & A Speed Parts. They had mostlythrush mufflers, a pyramid of Indian Head gasket cement anda stack of parts catalogs like Midwest Auto Specialties, MoonEquipment and, of course, J.C. Whitney. They hoped somedayto have a real storefront.Well Big Al got what he wanted. As of 2013, he has sold over9,950 engines since 1989 and loves the business. Big Al’s mostfun is coming out with new parts like the “Beltguard,” he hassold over 5,000 of them since beginning manufacturing in theyear 2000. Stuff like the “Remove Before Flight” ribbons startedwhen he wanted one for the parachute for his own racecar andcouldn’t find one anywhere.
