Symposia“Empowerment of Students in NationBuilding”Dec 18 to Dec 21, 2012Organized by PPI India, PPI Dunia and Centre for Chinese & SoutheastAsian Studies, SLL&CS, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New DelhiDuring the struggle for freedom in different countries around themiddle of the twentieth century, it became evident that the leaders of thisstruggle would be the future leaders of their country once freedom fromthe colonial rule was achieved. As the country stepped into a new age,leaders were largely chosen on the basis of their merit and participation inthe freedom struggle. They were chosen to provide leadership and formgovernment. However, those who were given the responsibility to leadfailed to formulate any clear cut plan for future generations in order to turnthem into capable leaders of the second generation.During the post colonial era in these developing nations, there wasgenerally a flux of students, coming mainly from rich classes or affluentfamilies, into the mainstream politics. Once a new political system gotestablished, in many countries, even within a democratic set up, the idea offamily rule got an upper hand. This notion set a wrong trend in that the <strong>offsprings</strong>had little or no experience of suffering during the colonial rule ascompared to their forefathers. ule the country as they did not have to struggle unlike their predecessors.The idea of creating family’s hegemony over politics gave birth to nepotismwhich led to corrupt practices in the government. Many such politicianswho started controlling their governments were not competent enough forthe jobs. The countries which were autocratic or where democracy hadfailed to take deep roots these corrupt practices were more pronounced.These developments blocked the way for those students who aspired to bepart of the mainstream politics and be the stake holders in the nationbuilding.Call for PapersPapers are invited from scholars in order to have a general assumption ashow the generation feels about the present leaders of their countries, theirpolitical, economic, social existence as reflected domestically andinternationally and whether they find themselves empowered toparticipate in the process of nation building.The length of the paper may be minimum 1500 to 4000 words depending.Abstract (300 words) should be submitted by 20th November 2012 and thefinal paper should be reach not later than 16 th of December 2012.
