Formative ResearchAfter you have segmented your target audience it is important tospeak with them directly about their attitudes, behaviors, access toservices and products, and HIV/AIDS/STD concerns. This can beaccomplished by conducting focus group discussions and/or keyinformant interviews.For example, if you are targeting women with multiple partners, theiroccupations, ability to afford condoms, percieved access to health care,education level, communication skills and family relationships all mayaffect how you will be able to reach them. Small changes in any ofthese (e.g., occupation—whether or not they consider themselves tobe sex workers) can lead to important changes in your approach.1.
