28Local Area Forum:-The next Shawclough/Healey Local Area Forum will be held on 8th October,6.30pm at Syke Community Base, Fieldhouse Industrial Estate, Fieldhouse Rd,Rochdale, OL12 0AA. The next one after this will be 28th January 2016 at thesame time and venue as the previous one listed above.Syke Walk and Talk GroupThe Syke Walk and Talk Group meet every Monday at 1.00 pm and Friday10.00am at Syke Methodist Chapel where there will be toilet facilities and hotdrinks and socialising after the walks. There are 2 levels on the walk on Monday,a high quick walk and a slower one. There are also three levels on a Friday. Ahigh fast walk, an intermediate walk and a slower one if needed. The foundation stone was laid in 1849 byJacob Tweedale of Healey Hall and the church was consecrated in 1850. In1853 the Royds private chapel was added and the spire erected in 1861.Further additions were the north aisle and vestry in 1877. The landmark belltower is currently under restoration and the belfry is said to contain the‘finest’ peal of six bells in the district, first rung on Easter morning 1870.The Life of Christ is illustrated in stained glass windows attributed to Messrs.Percy Bacon & Co of London and the symbols of Masonic patronage can beseen in the intricately carved doors to the east end. For Heritage Open Days,there will be an exhibition of historical documents, wedding and baptismdresses through the ages. View a range of photographs of Rose Queens andsocial events. There will be organ music recitals daily from 12noon to 2pm.Morning coffee and afternoon teas will be available.Christ Church’s Heritage Fair Day will be held on Saturday 12 Septemberwith home bake and craft stalls and a variety of children’s activities, fun andgames for all ages! In front of the Church Hall, there are three steps from the carpark level to the ground level, then access is fine. Behind the Church Hall,the ground is a little uneven across a grassed area. Two restrictions inside the churchare: The east end restoration area where there are two steps into that areaand the bell tower where again restoration is in progress. Directions:Travelling from Rochdale on the A671 Whitworth Road, Gandy Lane is onyour left 2.2 miles from Rochdale. After approximately 2 miles you will passon the right ‘The Oxford’ Pub. Continue over a mini roundabout and GandyLane is the next left turning where you will see a Rossendale, Lancashireboundary sign at the start of Gandy Lane.
