The goals of the Alumni “W”Association are to improve communicationswith alumni athletes, improve thecurrent athletic program and raise fundsto support annual operations of the currentathletic program. Through the efforts ofthis group, individual team alumni gatheringsare held yearly, such as a men’s soccergolf outing and alumni game to celebrate50 years of men’s soccer at OWU. Each of OWU’s 22 varsityteams has a corresponding alumni groupcalled the Committee for Excellence. Thesegroups have programs to support the currentcoaches’ needs, mostly recruiting assistance.Another item is the annual DaleJ. Bruce Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner, atwhich time the University’s top scholarathletesare honored. Through Team OWU,the principal athletic fundraising program,and other special events, the Alumni “W”Association raises about $140,000 annually.We know of no other Division III universitywhich raises as much money annuallyto support its athletic programs.bishop all-stars27
