Founded in 1842, <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong>is an independent undergraduateliberal arts university affiliated withThe United Methodist Church. <strong>Ohio</strong><strong>Wesleyan</strong> is accredited by the NorthCentral Association of Colleges andSchools. The <strong>University</strong> is a member ofthe Great Lakes Colleges Association, aconsortium of 13 leading independentinstitutions in Indiana, Michigan, and<strong>Ohio</strong>.<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> is one of 3 schoolsnationwide honored in February 2010with a Presidential Award for generalcommunity service. The award is partof the 2009 President’s Higher EducationCommunity Service Honor Roll — thehighest federal recognition a school canachieve for service learning and civicengagement.<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> also is one of “theDecade’s 15 Hottest Colleges,” accordingto a December 2009 ranking by “TheDaily Beast, an online media outlet.<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> is ranked sixth on thelist, with all colleges described as a“new class of first-choice schools.”<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> confers the Bachelorof Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, andBachelor of Music degrees. The multicultural enrollmenttotal of 22 percent includes U.S.multicultural students (13 percent)and international students (9 percent).Thirty-seven percent of the 2010 freshmengraduated in the top 10 percent oftheir high school class and 66 percentwere in the top 25 percent.Diversity, creativity, leadership,and service are emphasized throughoutthe co-curriculum. Students areactive in nearly 100 clubs and organizations,as well as departmentalstudent boards, academic honoraries,music and theatre productions, fraternitiesand sororities, and an extensiveintramural sports program. More than85 percent of the students are involvedin community service projects. <strong>Ohio</strong><strong>Wesleyan</strong> fields 23 varsity athleticteams that compete in the North CoastAthletic Conference.<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> comprises a 200-acre campus and 2 wilderness preserves.Eleven of the <strong>University</strong>’s 61buildings are entered in the NationalRegister of Historic Places. Nearly allstudents live on campus in a variety ofresidential facilities.
