Through the efforts of this group,individual team alumni gatherings are held yearly, such as a men’ssoccer golf outing and alumni game to celebrate 50 years of men’ssoccer at OWU. Also, using e-mail, OWU keeps alumni informedabout the current teams’ activities and upcoming events. Each ofOWU’s 22 varsity teams has a corresponding alumni group calledthe Committee for Excellence. These groups have programs tosupport the current coaches’ needs, mostly recruiting assistance.Another item is the annual Dale J. Bruce Scholar-Athlete AwardsDinner, at which time the University’s top scholar-athletes arehonored. Through Team OWU, the principal athletic fundraisingprogram, and other special events, the Alumni “W” Associationraises about $140,000 annually.
