These core values are easily stripped into threebasic principles: an almost-unanimous endorsement ofthe pursuit of excellence in all things, including athletics;universal identification of athletics as an integral part ofthe educational mission of the institution and citation ofthe intrinsic value to each of the participants, includingpersonal and social maturation, the education of the wholeperson, the development of a healthy lifestyle and learningthe value of the pursuit of goals in a collective context; andidentification of athletics as one of the best ways to developand foster a sense of community.
