<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Week</strong> <strong>2013</strong>Now in its second year, <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Week</strong> is a celebration of localyouth services led by local people and involves thousands of youngpeople, volunteers, youth work staff and members of the public comingtogether to take part in youth and community events. Events are as farreaching as duck races, family days, sports days, youth health initiatives,sex education talks, music events, fundraising drives, outreach events,personal development workshops, civic engagement events, informationdays and the list goes on and on...<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Week</strong> allows us to stop for a moment to reflect on thework that is being done in communities in the area of youth workprovision. It is a week to celebrate the family of <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> andthe work the Federation does together to promote, build and showcaseyouth work. It is also an opportunity for young people participating inclubs and projects to become involved in issues that affect them, connectwith policy makers through our national events and have fun!The <strong>2013</strong> week of celebration, fun and advocacy takes place fromSaturday 20th April – Sunday 28th April <strong>2013</strong>. Canal Communities Regional <strong>Youth</strong> ServiceCarlow Regional <strong>Youth</strong> ServiceFun Run / Walk and Family Day takes place onSunday April 21st and is run in conjunction withCarlow Sports Parternship. The event will begin atCarlow Rugby Club at 11.30am and the day willfeature lots of free entertainment and activities forthe whole family.<strong>Youth</strong> Promotion Event with County CarlowComhairle na nÓg runs throughout the <strong>Week</strong> and isaimed at getting more young people into CarlowRegional <strong>Youth</strong> Service (CRYS). Young people willbe encouraged to share their experience of participatingin the different projects around the county.A Little Piece of Me: NYCI’s ‘Artist in Residence’ ArtProject will contribute to CRYS's 25 yearcelebrations by encouraging young people toparticipate in the project at any of CRYSs’ eventsduring <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Week</strong>.Canal Community Regional <strong>Youth</strong> Service(CCRYS) will host a GLOW Lantern Event onThursday April 25th in the grounds of Bluebell<strong>Youth</strong> Project at 9pm. This is our Dublincelebration of GLOW - <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong>’sNational Fundraising Campaign aiming tobrighten the future for young people in <strong>Ireland</strong>.On the night as well as the lighting ceremonythere will be performances from the youngpeople from the Bluebell <strong>Youth</strong> Project.The Health Quality Mark will be presented to CRYS on Monday April 22nd in The Vault.Treasure Hunt organised by young people from New Oak / Tullow Road <strong>Youth</strong> Projecttakes place on Tuesday April 23rd in John Sweeney Park. Entry is free.Premier of ‘The Wheels on the Bus’, a movie made by The Vault Film Making Group takesplace on Wednesday April 24th in The Vault and tells the story of the wheels on the buswho are ‘tyred’ of all the work they are doing for the CRYS 25 Year Celebrations andbegin to fight back!Throughout <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Week</strong> CRYS will have an Information Stand in the FairGreen Shopping Centre. In the past this has proved very successful in showcasing thework of the youth service, informing parents and young people of our projects andrecruiting new members and volunteers.


CDYS <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong>CDYS Midleton will hold a ‘Celebration of <strong>Youth</strong>Clubs Day’ on Saturday April 20th and will includeoutdoor games, picnic and a disco.Outdoor Soccer tournament takes place on MondayApril 22nd.Junior Boys Club will take place on Tuesday April 23rd.The Guitar Group and Band Rehersals take place on Wednesday April 24th, and there willbe a Rapping Group at the Bussstop <strong>Youth</strong> Club on Thursday April 25th.CDYS Mallow will hold a Music Programme <strong>Work</strong>shop on Monday April 22nd.Drama event with the Aspergers Group takes place on Wednesday April 24th. Donegal <strong>Youth</strong> Service'Let's Talk About Sex' Awareness <strong>Week</strong> in Donegalruns from Monday April 22nd - 27th and aims atpromoting healthy and supportive conversationswith young people about sex, sexual health andsexuality.Virtual Babies Project runs over the weekend ofApril 20-21st in Letterkenny Women’s Centre.Local school students will participate in sexualhealth education and the risks of unprotectedsexual activity in early teen years.‘Let's Talk About Sex’ Sessions in SecondarySchools, these sessions take place throughout<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Week</strong> in schools countywide.The Sexual Health Session plans will be sent tosecondary schools in advance with an outline ofactivities to stimulate the conversation withstudents in a teacher friendly style.<strong>Youth</strong> Media Team Voxbox - This Letterkenny <strong>Youth</strong> Information Project runs all week andwill feature young people from the <strong>Youth</strong> Media Team conducting a voice voxbox onthe streets of Letterkenny on sexual health.Love Hurts Train the Trainers Sexual Health Programme training programme for Adultsworking with young people and interested in expanding provision into the area of sexualhealth awareness takes place on Tuesday April 23rd in Letterkenny Women’s Centre.Sexual Health Awareness Sessions will be incorporated into group work activities in TheLOFT all week.Launch of LGBT Faces of Donegal - This exhibition takes place in Letterkenny RegionalCultural Centre on Friday April 26th and is a culmination of the work of the BreakOut<strong>Youth</strong> Project and will illustrate through photographs and stories an overview of 20 LGBTpeople, young and old. Ossory <strong>Youth</strong>Ossory <strong>Youth</strong> will hold a 5K FunRun on Saturday April 20th startingfrom Kikenny Castle Park.Registration is from from 10amand the run will being at 11am.There will be special races forchildren on the day with prizes forthe winners. Cost is €5 for adultsand €2 for U16'sTipperary Regional <strong>Youth</strong> Service<strong>Youth</strong> Forum hosted by Tipperary <strong>Youth</strong> Café takes place on Saturday April 20th from2pm - 4pm. There will be a youth platform made up of young people from various youthclubs and projects. 30 young people will represent their communities and will feed intothe organisational strategic plan.The young people will also have an opportunity to get involved in projects throughoutthe year and in return TRYS will support them in running a Valentines Ball in 2014.Charity Fun Run with TRYS takes place on Sunday April 28th in the Market Yard, from11am. This event is open to individuals and families who would like to support TRYS, thecost of entry for the Fun Run is €10 per adult and €5 for U18’s and children U12 can walkor run for free.

The day will featurefashion displays, art, drama, music, song,games and a pop up café.Oranmore Area Comhairle event co-ordinatedby <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> Galway takes place onTuesday April 23rd from 10am-3pm.Ballinasloe Area Comhairle co-ordinated by<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> Galway takes place onThursday Aprll 25th in Castleblakeney <strong>Youth</strong>Centre from 10am - 3pm.<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> LouthCraóbh Rua Community <strong>Youth</strong> Project will be rehearsing for their short film in union withSharp Focus and Calipo Theatre Company – called ‘Crossing the Divide’. The projectbrings four groups of young people, aged 14 -18 years from areas affected by theconflict, North and South of the Border together with professional film makers on theproduction of four short films.Each film will be inspired by a particular event that took place during the conflict, andeach film will explore the impact this event had on the participants’ communities. Theyoung people will be involved in the process every step of the way and will perform intheir own film. The four participating youth groups are: Shankill Women's Centre, Belfast,Monaghan <strong>Youth</strong> Theatre, Craobh Rua, Dundalk, and Falls Womens Centre, Belfast.

<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> National Office EventsYoung People’s Constitutional Convention<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> will facilitate a Young People’sConstitutional Convention on Saturday April 20th in theMansion House, Dublin from 11am-4pm. This event will bringtogether 66 young people from across <strong>Ireland</strong> to discusspossible ammendments to the National Constitution. Theday will provide young people with an opportunity to havetheir voices heard in the Consitutional Convention processthat has been initatied by the Oireachtas. Tom Arnold, Chairof the official Constitutional Convention process, will attendon the day and hear from the young people. The results ofthe <strong>Youth</strong> Constitutional Convention will go along with theofficial report to the Taoiseach.<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> Political Briefing<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> local members, staff, volunteers andyoung people will travel to Leinster House on Tuesday April23rd to take part in a political briefing with members of theOireachtas. This event is an opportuntiy for youth work staff,volutneers and young people involved in local youthservices, to meet with their local representative and discussissues facing young people and youth service provision in<strong>Ireland</strong> today.<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong>’s Irish <strong>Youth</strong> Music AwardsThe finals of the acclaimed Irish <strong>Youth</strong> Music Awards takeplace on Saturday April 27th in Liberty Hall Theatre, Dublinfrom 11am. This programme is entirely youth led and musicbased and honours the most effective music projects run byyoung people in <strong>Ireland</strong>. Judging is based on the entireproject from the band, to the crew, the promotion andapproach to the competition. The overall championreceives recording time in a studio and they produce analbum of their own.The programme is entirely youth-led and the young peopleinvolved gain entrepreneurial and leadership skills whiledoing something they are passionate about. The event alsobrings young people into direct contact with some of<strong>Ireland</strong>’s top music industry personnel.Last year over 15,000 young people participated in <strong>Youth</strong><strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong>’s Irish <strong>Youth</strong> Music Awards, we hope to top thatnumber in <strong>2013</strong>!
